I would like to create a lighthouse and need some suggestions on how to have some kind of light rotating at the top of it. Thank you for your help on this. I have thought of putting like glowstone in a minecart on a forever loop at the top. Oh btw I said I would never play this 8bit looking game because how fun could it be and I have played atari before and a friend talked me into it and now I am addicted. Such and awesome game! You'll have to wait until Glowstone lamps are added to the game to do it properly. You can't put glowstone in a minecart, although that sounds like a cool idea.
Until then you could try this, although it is very expensive.
Thanks I guess I should have told you I am trying to keep my world without switching to creative so this would take me a very long time. That guy did an awesome job.

Lots of Redstone and pistons is the only way to get a rotating light.
So it's either going to take you a long time to do in survival, or you'll have to use creative.
Just set a glow stone, 4 sides that retract down with sticky pistons exposing the light..
attach it to a simple clock and then a repeater or 2 on each line to dealy it and it'll be simple but will do the trick...
But the glowstone on the cart loop seems cool, you could also just place the glowstone in the middle and the cart looping around it would create the illusion of light going around.... SO MANY WAYS!!! lol
