Minecraft Xbox edition is certainly not the PC version, and yet everywhere I look online people continue to say how close it is to the PC version. Even now, with The End update imminent, the Xbox Edition lacks so much. Probably the biggest restriction, is the world size. Now given 4J should never have released the horrible excuse for Minecraft that was the initial release, it still gathered everyone's attention and was great, for an arcade game anyway. I say horrible excuse because it should have had obvious features right off the bat such as sprinting, meat stacking, the Nether etc. But world size is what many people want most, that and finally not having to respawn a new world every month or 2. What many people already know also, is that a lot of this is because of Microsoft. They limit their XBLA game sizes, which is annoying in my opinion... and stupid. Minecraft on xbox could be the PC twin sister, but it isn't and never will be thanks to Microsoft's stupid restrictions. And I don't know about all of you, but I think 4J false advertised before the Xbox release. They called it "Limited Edition", making it sound like it was the PC game that was going to be available for a limited time or with extra content added to the original PC game. NOT that it was "limited" as far as content. The definition of Limited Edition is not what this means(look it up, its true.)
On top of all of this 4J should have trashed the 4player splitscreen bullcrap. Who honestly wants to play 4 player splitscreen anymore. That should have stayed dead with the N64. Especially since even on a large TV, you have to have a magnifying glass to read the text. Leaving that out probably would have given them time to put in features that should have been in the release to begin with.
I love minecraft and the game on Xbox was great, but after ditching worlds I've put multiple hours in for every update is annoying, and makes me not want to play. Especially for updates that only add content I believe should have been in there from the start.
Whats your opinion?
What many people already know also, is that a lot of this is because of Microsoft. They limit their XBLA game sizes, which is annoying in my opinion... and stupid. Minecraft on xbox could be the PC twin sister, but it isn't and never will be thanks to Microsoft's stupid restrictions.
Prove that statement. Back it up with absolute facts and numbers... then we'll talk.
I actually disagree with the split screen part of that statement. There are plenty of people that play split screen all over the place. How is it dead when people still do it and still want to do it. not everyone can afford multiple xbox units... One should be enough....
I also don't understand the title at all... makes no sense to me. "Should be" just doesn't make sense. Far as I am concerned I like having it as a relative that came from the same tree. It still is minecraft. Just because we are experiencing what the pc went through many times ago is no excuse to say such. I mean notch stopped at 1.6.6 in his xbox development, as he continued to a point as mojang was formed, and successful with the pc version. So more focus was on the pc, and that version sat collecting dust till Mojang decided to hand over to a certain version of their programming to be made into the xbox, now 4j is behind and doing well to translate the code into the xbox language from the point notch left off.
It would not have been out by now if that were the case to have all those features. you would still be waiting to see it appear on the xbox and many would not have even gleamed upon it, because they would not have heard of it much. Some people are like that.
I actually like the way that 4J is going about it. we are getting the updates faster than the pc ever had when they were going through with all this. That and they are constantly fixing many of the bugs/glitches that were not noticed in testing by by the audience... So they are keeping up in my opinion.
My opinion is that this little xbox version was not meant to be exactly like the pc version, just a variation of it, like the Pocket edition, and that other one I don't know much about.... All root from the same ideas, and that is enough for me to keep on digging....:D

An Xbox 360 console is finite. It has no ability to expand it's memory, graphics processor, or CPU. A PC can constantly be upgraded.
Only an idiot would think that you can snap your fingers and convert the code from PC into code for the 360... and still have it work. The approach 4J took, was actually a very smart step. Each "feature" in the PC version, is a series of potential bugs in the 360 conversion. Going through the same upgrade path as the PC version is the logical approach. You get the base game working, fix the bugs, add new features, fix the new bugs those features bring, and so on. By taking this approach, it makes it easier to narrow down what causes the bugs... and push out fixes faster.
This isn't the PC version. I don't think anyone ever thought it would be... nor could be. There's a reason why it's sold as an arcade title and not on a disc.
Okay I tried to post this a while ago but the massive snow storm outside wouldn't allow it. But here yeah go...
Okay, that was a pretty big post with lots of negative things in it. Lets clear it up....
Minecraft Xbox edition is certainly not the PC version
Well obviously it isn't... and never will be.
yet everywhere I look online people continue to say how close it is to the PC version.
It is close, version wise.
Probably the biggest restriction, is the world size.
Yeah, and 4J can't do anything about it. It's because of the Xbox capabilities
Now given 4J should never have released the horrible excuse for Minecraft that was the initial release
4J released it like that on initial release because that is what the PC version was currently at..
I say horrible excuse because it should have had obvious features right off the bat such as sprinting, meat stacking, the Nether etc
The Nether WAS on initial release... Also if they did have these features on initial release, we would have waiting longer... personally I was happy with initial release.
that and finally not having to respawn a new world every month or 2
Um, PC players had to do this to when all of their chunks were loaded
What many people already know also, is that a lot of this is because of Microsoft.
Not Microsoft, but their 10 year old system. (xbox 360)
but it isn't and never will be thanks to Microsoft's stupid restrictions
Once again, not Microsoft restrictions it's the Xbox 360's
They called it "Limited Edition
I don't believe they did... link please?
On top of all of this 4J should have trashed the 4player splitscreen bullcrap
Okay why the hell does this matter if your not playing on it? They did this to HELP people who wanted to play together, it's not "bullcrap"
Who honestly wants to play 4 player splitscreen anymore?
People with friends.
If i'm wrong on anything please correctme^. My opinion? You complain to much.
Personally I Like the fact that we're growing with the game.. We are all excited for updates, we all get to mess with stuff as we get it at the same time.... I own the PC version for my son since he's 6 and loves mod videos so I bought him the PC version for the mods.
I love the Xbox version and that's all I play. We're probably reliving the feeling people had back in 09'-10' being part of something that is awesome and new.
Soon enough it will expand and disconnect itself from the PC version and we will have our own game and community....
But yes, compared to PC it's different, but then again The PC version is there... if you prefer that.. play that.
For now I'm enjoying the ride... and when they come out with the Next Xbox and want to sell it at retail for like $59.99 I'll be in line ready to buy it...

What makes you think leaving out 4 player split screen would have gained you anything? Alot of peoople use split screen. My kids do, the nieghbors kids do, it is a great way to have family time. And you are crazy to be complaining about new FREE content. Play any FPS games lately? It costs $10 to $15 for every map pack. Some of those games end up costing you $100 by time you buy all the new maps.
Most of us have PC's, and most of our PC's are connected to the same network our xbox's are on. Why can't servers be written to allow xbox's to use our servers. We stream media to and from the xbox, so obviously data protocols are in place right? This would reduce the overhead on the xbox version considerably right? This would allow much bigger worlds right?
Kinda curious what others think about this before i poll and create a thread for it. Maybe 4j just might go hmm good idea. or maybe they smack me in the head i dunno.

Mainly it is due to the programming aspect, and the fact that xbox could not possibly render everything the pc version does, even as a client. The FPS would be pretty bad. However on the same note they are already talking about rented servers as a possibility, but I doubt even then we would not get too much bigger worlds if at all. There is a lot more to it than just servers...
You would still have to render everything. As it stands mostly the entire map goes into memory. There is a somewhat buffer it seems but right now unsure, as I am no expert on that subject. We will have to wait quite a while anyway before we ever get servers. At least up to where they are going their own way. some time after that maybe... but that is the future, and not really right around the corner either.

You sir, need to do researching before posting. There is no way our xbox 360 can handle infinite worlds.... There are over 10,000 diamonds (some people did math) in an average world. There are almost no real structures that are over 800 meters long, and there aren't many that are over 125 METERS. So what are you building? You should do less complaining....
Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
didnt read much of this thread, but i just wanna point out something...microsoft has been extremely good to 4j and minecraft. they limit the number of free updates a game can have, but they are letting minecraft surpass that.

am I the only one who bought a HDTV just for minecraft? (dont regret it either)

Whenever me and my friends all sleep over at one house, we love playing split screen. It is a feature we appreciate using when other games like black ops 2 only support 2 player split screen. Also, we don't really care about world size. All our seeds are pretty decent, and we have no reason to need the map to be bigger.
Okay, you're playing a game on a platform that's nearly a decade old and by far inferior to a decent gaming PC. Yet, the reason it's not at the level of its equivalent on the PC is because of the corporation that produced aforementioned platform?
That's like me saying it's Mac's/Trio's/Android's/some other manufacturer of smart phones fault that MC:PE isn't as good as the PC version. Or that it's Raspberry's fault that the Pi version doesn't stack up either. Ignorant accusation is ignorant.

The 360 version will never be exactly the same as PC. As everyone else has said the 360 is just too old and is at its limit. I personally like the 360 version because not all of us have a great PC. Granted I would like the world height to be increased and have better multiplayer like the PC version but I'm still fine with the way it is. My Opinion you complain way to much.
