The one thing I would like to add in addition to people's previous responses which are, of course, accurate is that, on twitter, 4J has said that they are considering adding in a feature which would allow you to revert your biome changes to a previous version. This would probably have to be done at or after the update which will make biomes be saved in the world data (the game save) rather than calculated dynamically from the seed. That was something that they did on the PC version so that future biome changes wouldn't destroy existing biomes. In our case they MIGHT (no guarantees) add an option to change the biome code back to what it was when the map was created. Here is a link to the tweet showing that it is something that they are thinking about. Don't get your hopes up.

I know how you feel.... the ica age effected my adventure (story adapted to the ice age) but it looks stupid because my desert is freezing over..... and I'm way to lazy to shovel it all.... also my fountain are freezing. I just wish 4j would do something about it.

If and when jungles get added to the game, the biome code will change yet again. Therefore, there is a chance that your world may revert back to rainy weather or no desert weather over those same areas at that time. It may not, but it could. Even if, however, it stops snowing over those areas, you will have to break the ice on your currently frozen bodies of water and shovel the snow away before you will notice the change.
I hope 4J fixes our old worlds, I'm not creating a new world within every new update. Meanwhile, that's how my world looks like:
BTW this world had no snow at all, when I created it back in 1.7.
I can tell by the patchiness of the snowed areas that, although it may have become snowed over in 1.8.2, it is not snowing in those areas when the photo was taken. If the snowy areas were being replenished by snowfall, any barren areas would be completely convered over in snow the moment a snowfall occured. To get rid of the snow on the ground when it is no longer snowing in that biome, you will have to shovel it. It does not "melt."
If they update the biome coding so that it tracks temperature, then snow and ice should melt outside of the tundra/taiga biomes. Its the same update that will make Snow golems melt in deserts.
At least I think they do, trying to find confirmation on that.

Yes, they could do it that way. They could also program the game to be a completely different game, couldn't they? I would like to see them change the biome coding so that it takes a read off the terrain as it exists in the world to decide what the weather should be rather than relying on the seed string to create the weather. That way, whenever the codes change so that the seed generates different terrain to allow for new biomes, the weather would not change over terrain that was already generated. Had this been done prior to the start of all these biome additions, the whole problem would have never come about... and it would fix the old worlds completely.
However, as it exists right now... some of the worlds that snowed over in 1.8.2 can be made unsnowy again because it's not snowing in them in 1.0.1. All a person needs to do is shovel the snow from the areas where they really don't want it to be and break the ice blocks so they revert back to water. However, before doing anything, I would recommend waiting to see what the weather does when jungles are added into the mix so that they would have a somewhat "permanent" weather pattern to go by.
I don't just mean on the Xbox, I mean in general. Before the "adventure update" a lot of the terrain generation was actually believable in terms of biome placement and "climate". I actually remember when I first played Minecraft (on the Xbox, before 1.8) I actually thought the map was supposed to be roughly similar to the actual earth. On the newer terrain, the biome placements make no sense, they are just thrown onto the map randomly.
I totally agree. It really bothers me that they went from biome code that was more realistic to completely random biome placements. The old biome transitions (grass color) were better too if I'm remembering correctly. I'm sure that Mojang had their reasons but if you ask me, I would think it would be awesome if, when 4J goes on their own update path, they would rewrite the biome code to make it a lot better (temperature and humidity based placement, smoother transitions, more *good* beaches and diverse terrain, and maybe throw in more biome related features in general). That's just my two cents about it.

That's because, before 1.8.2, there was only one color of grass. It was the bright green found in the forest biome currently. I do agree, however, that the changes in the color of the grass and even moreso in the color of the leaves can be very irritating... particularly when individual trees straddle biomes. Most of the grass and leaf colors that were added are not very pleasing generally. I find the color of the grass in swamp biomes particularly depressing and the browny yellowy color of the grass and trees on the edges of desert biomes particularly nauseating. As for biome placement, I don't find it that bad. Our world has a lot of unusual variety in it, if you look for it. In this world, deserts do get snowed on and there are pockets of unusual climates within larger areas of general climate all over the world.

Oh... okay. I actually considered that as a possibility but I guess I had imagined for some reason that there were different grass colors. Anyway, that makes a lot of sense now that you told me that. In that case, I just think it would be cool overall to make super smooth grass color transitions because right now, the sharp changes are UGLY. I just think that, in general, the biomes need some work.

No argument there... more gradual changes in the colors would help a lot, I think. I wish too that they would change the colors a little bit to make them less depressing and/or nauseating... I've always wondered if Notch or Jeb were going through a bad time emotionally when they chose those particular colors. I really live in a high-altitude, semi-desert area and the color of the real grass is often burned brown... but it doesn't make me stomach sick the way the color on Minecraft does... Oh, and it does snow here from time to time.

They didn't have as many biomes to take into account at the time. They could organize them somewhat because they had a lot fewer biomes vying for space on a limited map size. I don't know how it used to be on PC but on the current version the biomes seem to be more organized- because from what I've seen exploring, each biome tends to take up as much space as our whole worlds do.
You should try the seed Christmas then, it is mostly snow plains. There are parts where there are that spruce forests, but most of the map is snow plains, that have oak every so often.
I love that map

It MAY fix itself eventually... not saying it will. It's like rolling the dice; but then again, this is a game.
