So I decided to check if my nether looked any different.
I found some stuff I found but I also found a bunch of new stuff. So I decided to explore for awhile.
I never found a nether fortress so I decided to copy my seed and make a creative mode version of it.
I find the area that my main hub is and I make a nether portal. I jump through it and where do I spawn?
On top of a Nether Fortress.
So I decided to write down my coordinates and head back to my old game and see if I can find that spot. Sure enough, there is nothing there and it is right next to where my portal was.
New Creative Map post patch:
Old World:
I really don't know what I should do. This makes me really lose interest in this game. I spent the past week building this amazing world and then I have to throw it away if I want to play legit?
I just started playing about a week and a half ago and it had me hooked from the beginning.
I guess I could just go and make a new seed and just abandon this for now until it is (hopefully) fixed.
I've received some feedback about how people like my world so I'll post the info for it...
8461629093320599293 is the Seed.
Built Nether Portal in Overworld at: X: 320, Y: 75, Z: 204
Nether Fortress should be at: X: 117, Y: 70, Z: 82
It won't be fixed because nothing is broken. You already explored the chunks in that area, therefore you won't find anything new in them. You would be much more frustrated if terrain generation updates worked the way you're proposing they should. Everything you've built in the world would be overwritten because of the new generation features.
Congratulations, you have discovered the point of survival mode. Either make due with what you have, or move on to a new world.
It's only fixed for new worlds, not for existing worlds as usual. They seem to be complelty oblivious to the amount of time people put into their worlds. They basicly expect you to start a new world with every patch. So what ever you do, don't get attached to what you build/create. Or simply move on to other games as most people seem to be doing.
We are aware of the issues regarding this and will be adding an option to future version to allow for the Nether to be completely reset without changing overworld.

How long will this take though?
I suppose I can just continue on without a Blaze Rod.

Yeah I know I would be way more upset if my stuff was erased because of a patch. I'll just make due for now.

As TU8 has only just been released we have no information regarding the TU9 release.

The game will not arbitrarily overwrite any terrain that has been previously generated because, currently, the game has no way of deciding whether or not that is terrain the player has built on or changed in some way and wants to keep. As 4J tweeted, they are looking into making an option for the player to tell the game that they would like their nether reset. So the earliest I would have expected all along that this could go into effect is in TU9, which probably won't come out for at least a month, maybe more. They are breaking new ground with this idea, so I'd almost expect that it won't make it into TU9 either, so your wait could be even longer. (ETA Note: 4JSteve has not said that it would be in TU9, only that they themselves don't have any information on whether or not it will be in TU9. If you assume it will be in TU9, you're just setting yourself up to be disappointed yet again if it doesn't happen that way.)
You can keep multiple worlds saved on your hard drive, so why not just keep your old world saved for now and start a new one for now so that you can explore a whole new world and enjoy and practice brewing today? Once the reset nether option does come out, you could go back into that world and pick up where you left off. That's what I'm planning to do now with my old world.
In 4J's Defense, I believe world size is limited by max save file size as defined by microsoft. The changes in weather/biome are something we have understood since TU2 or TU3, I accept it as a price for getting new things. I still have my first two worlds from before the first update, but don't play them right now. There is still a lot of fun to be had while we wait for the game to develop / mature.
From the OP's information it looks like the update did exactly what they said it would for him. Thank you for sharing this info.
With all due respect Steve, an option to respawn the Nether will prevent even more players from leaving and as such it will be a good thing. However as soon as the Jungle Biome is added, weather and biomes in existing worlds will change again, causing mayhem for some. You guys made the decision to limit the xbox world in size which results in issues that Mojang caused going from small to disasterous. The decision should have been backuped by action in preserving existing worlds and offering exisiting worlds options to include new content. Easily said for me, very hard to code for, that I understand, however as a customer who put hundreds of hours into is world and is left with a train wreck that simply doesn't go down well. Ow and the guy who designed Enderman should be tarred, yes even if that's the holy Notch himself. What a poor game design thing that is.
I can agree with some of what you're saying; but I wouldn't write off your old world as a train wreck just yet. Jungles are yet to be added, so the climate will change again.... and so, there is a chance you may wind up with climate that's not so bad. My old world climate has oscillated back and forth a couple of times already. It was originally mostly snow, and then in 1.8.2 it had almost none (making it difficult to do anything with my igloos since I couldn't replenish the snow on the ground). Then when 1.0.1 came in, it's back to being about 50% snowy. Unfortunately, not right where my igloos are.... yet. So, who knows, once jungles get added, I could get lucky and have snowy igloos again and tropical weather at my beach resort.
Some people do go off in a huff; but usually those who stick with it longer reap the rewards of their patience. I would encourage everyone just to keep their old worlds saved in abeyance on their hard drives and wait a little longer to see what finally happens with them when all these changes are said and done. In the meantime, start a new world without getting too serious about making it a "forever" thing. Enjoy the game... as just a game.
The most recent update only fixes newly made worlds. It doesn't edit chunks of the old world. I started a new survival world the 29th to enjoy Blazes since the spawners didn't show up on my current world. You can see the showcase in my sig, we spent DAYS (Not hours) on our old world. I probably won't be starting another survival world until things like the Jungle Biome ect. are updated to the console version. I still have to find things like all my monster spawners, and wish I'd have just used the same seed so I'd have all their coordinates but my friend recommended a new seed with all the current biomes, 2 blaze spawners, and a completely overgrown nether fortress I'm really enjoying. Plus, its boring trying to grind and rebuild what you already had. It was seriously a 500 hour world I left behind when you consider the time that me and my 5 friends put into it. But part of the fun of survival is building, surviving, exploring. If you want to play with us sometime I can hit you up, my old crew is pretty bored of Minecraft since our last world was hitting the point of no stone unturned.

Also, I'm soon going to start 'World 4' view my World 3 via my YouTube. Best Survival Map you will EVER See.
They should look into creating a variant of creative mode that will only allow players to add biomes and structures and add villagers to older worlds this would be so players wouldn't have to leave survival mode but still be able to update their world
While it would take some work to create something like this it is the best and only option i can think of
It must be so depressing to be a developer and read people complaining about a game no matter how many updates you turn out in a short amount of time or how many problems you address.
To that end: 4J, you are doing a wonderful job with this game. There are problems, we are all aware of this, but the rate that you release updates and fix bugs, as well as pull forward features from newer versions of PC Minecraft, is nothing short of spectacular. I've personally had to restart worlds a couple of times to get new features that you've incorporated, but I've always had fun doing it and I don't regret the time I've invested in my old worlds. It's a game, and I'm having lots of fun playing it. Thanks guys, keep up the good work.

I understand that they are constantly updating the game. I didn't realize what point the game was at. I only started playing a few weeks ago and it just threw me off. I didn't know they weren't done when I first started playing. Now that I have all this information, I am grateful for how awesome 4J is with their turnout on patches.
It just threw me off really.
I think I will just keep my old world saved and recreate it. Or I might just keep going with what I have and hope for new updates to my existing world.
They really are doing a bang up job. The update cycle is just an accepted part of it, unfortunately. Hopefully TU9's addition of the final Biomes and (probable) switch to the Anvil world gen format will mean updates from then on should be able to be added to existing worlds (With no new biomes to throw things off). That's why I'm just playing around right now and biding my time till TU9 to do any serious survival mode building.
I think the most resonable way to update old worlds with new biomes and stuff is a type of editor where the player can place things where they want so their creations don't get destroyed and it would need to be made so players who have survival worlds can update their world without it being like when you enter creative mode and mess up your world
Of course there would need to be limits built into the editor so players can't abuse it

Same here. Not much i can do in the meantime other than work in creative. I'd start a new survival world but i already know i'll be abandoning it when jungles come out, and possibly abandoning even that one if jungle and desert temples are in separate updates. I feel the OP's pain too as I had a tremendous survival game going where my friends and I had linked 4 different villages, our stronghold, and abandoned mineshaft by roads and rail and were slowly starting to build walls around each city. We even turned the river that ran by three of our villages into another transport method by adding in a series of docks and road connecting each village to the nearest dock. We almost had a working society going as almost everyone had their own village and had begun trading supplies back and forth while adding their own unique flair to their own village.
Maybe after the update that lets us reset our nether, since all we did was raid it for every bit of glowstone we could get to, we might return to it, but i know that i myself am excited to play in the jungles and tame ocelots, so who knows. I'm still hoping that 4J finds a way to incorporate our old abandoned maps back into the games for us somehow, either through a portal system, or something akin to the overworld maps from Sim City where you could set maps as neighbors to each other, only in this game we'd be able to visit them by crossing the borders (which would always involve a boat ride since minecraft worlds are all islands when you get down to it.) and passing through a loading screen similar to the Nether and The End (presumably)

Alright then. I guess that solves that. I'm gonna assume about a month-month and a half.

I've created a new map and i found a nether fortress with nether wart and blaze spawner.
