I was playing a little bit o' survival and sometimes wants to go to creative mode, but what bothers me is that I have to save, exit, and reload. So I am hoping that at some point we get the ability to switch it to creative right from survival. And that it is a host-only option. (And no, I'm not one of those people that brag about being in survival only so don't go all butthurt)
This is basically just a suggestion topic. Thank you!

Once pitfall I see that may be preventing this is it would enable people to switch into creative do a bunch of stuff and then switch back into survival without saving in creative. While many people would use it just to test creative ideas before commiting them to a save, it could be used to just circumvent the deactivation of the leaderboards and achievements.
you go into creative it disables the leaderboards, always has done, just means they would implement it so you go in there when in-game without saving it would disable them, easy to get around

I haven't tested this myself since I'm online so little and generally can't access the leaderboards; but some people have posted that they were able to enter creative mode, exit without saving, and not have the leaderboards disabled for that world. I do know that the message about the world being created in survival mode doesn't change until after the world is saved in creative mode. That is, if I go into creative mdoe and exit without saving and then go back into the world in survival mode, the message still says that the world was "created in survival mode." (unless they just changed it with 1.0.1)
again!! i was answering a question from someone else !!
i dont know about this, ive gone into creative and saved so it permanently disabled for me
tbh i dont care for leaderboards, they dont work lol
I agree that they don't work; but the fact remains that some people did care enough about them to essentially demand of 4J the precaution that they be disabled if creative was used. So, 4J brought in that feature to pacify those users and, I think, set up the need to fully exit the world to go into creative to facilitate how that feature works.
I don't care about the leaderboards either. Since I'm offline 99% of the time (and when I am online, I am a "guest" of another Live profile member), the leaderboards have a 0% chance of accurately reflecting anything I do.
Tonight, I'll double-check what the "created in" message does post 1.01; but I won't be able to actually access a leaderboard to say whether or not the blocks I mine and kills, etc. are or are not being added to the totals.
didnt even cross my mind that you could go into creative, then boost your leaderboards then exit without saving, id be very surprised if 4J missed this
but either way going back to the OP i think it would be good if we could switch between the 2 without have to exit and save every time
It may not have been "missed" by 4J; but rather if you do exit without saving anything, then the world itself has been, theoretically, unaffected by whatever you've done while in creative. In essense, it's been erased just the same as a creeper hole when you exit without saving after dying rather than respawning.
However, if they enable going in and out of creative without leaving the world, then it would be possible to never save the world in creative while still retaining whatever work was done in creative. There may be some ways around it, but it's just something I see as a possible pitfall. Personally, I'm not against the concept at all.
I'm one of the ones who thought (and still thinks) that you should never be able to switch between the two modes in a world. Unless you have Super Will Power, there's really no point in survival anymore. It's too easy, even now, to just pop into creative, get yourself a diamond sword and armor, potion, whatever (or a chest full of each), and pop back. Once you cross that line, you're addicted, and you can't stop.
I think, It should be set as an option on world create.. (Toggle Creative).
After that if you don't pick it it won't let you..
But there is times I'm doing something in creative like something involving mobs, and would be sweet to just turn them on..
But I don't think it should be option on all worlds. ( Which I know it is, with exiting and reloading in Creative)

Good idea... just might be the best idea I've heard on this dilemma yet. Put that one in the suggestions thread.
Once you cross that line, you're addicted, and you can't stop.
Minecraft, whether you're playing survival or creative mode, is already addictive.
Back to the topic at hand, it's a great idea. I would like to expand on it a little bit, the ability to enable creative mode for specific players, not just for the host or the session as a whole. It would be like the commands you see on MCPC servers. One notion coming to mind is Hunger Games, imagine players having their PVP disabled and gaining the ability to fly around and spectate. Perhaps they could even add in a feature to make specific players invisible, as not to bother the existing competitors.

that is correct, i use that method often when i need an overhead view on my Terra-forming map, to get a view of how much i have left to do (and help plan out the buildings i'm going to put on the island). If they do implement a system to check if a game was ever

I'm (80%) sure that leaderboard stats only update upon save in a survival map, so anything you do would not get counted if you exit without saving (otherwise, the lag would probably be worse if MCXBLA had to track the stats live).
I wouldn't mind seeing this feature, but i'd be WAY more interested in being able to change game difficulty from the pause menu (like if you're building in survival, need some slimeballs for sticky pistons, and need to go to your slime farm, it would be nice to be able to turn on monsters, kill a few slimes, and go back to peaceful. (i personally build on peaceful (creative and survival) because i HATE being in the middle of working on a building and having a creeper blow up on me and half of my work gets destroyed). now don't get me wrong, i do play w/ monsters on in most of my maps, but the ability to switch difficulties like they have on the PC would be a great option).
That option isn't a "i need this in the next update or else i'm gonna nerd rage on the forums" but i think it would be a great addition, and really help (even in survival, let's say you've been out exploring a cave, you found half a stack of diamonds, a ton of coal, and more redstone than you know what to do with (except for you Nose-Job!). you ran out of food, your armor broke, and you're low on health, so you need to get back to your base 8 chunks away. to make matters worse, it's night out, and you are forced to make the run back to your house when suddenly you hear the deadly hiss of a creeper right next to you, but your hunger bar is too low to let you sprint. that would be a great time to pause, switch to peaceful, and safely make your way back home before you are able to turn monsters back on, and go hunting for some creepers!)
However, if they enable going in and out of creative without leaving the world, then it would be possible to never save the world in creative while still retaining whatever work was done in creative. There may be some ways around it, but it's just something I see as a possible pitfall. Personally, I'm not against the concept at all.
I agree with this point on the potential problem with "quick swapping" or whatever it would be called. One safeguard they could have with an option like this is that it only be avaialble in a map that has already been saved or started in Creative. At that point, everything that should be deactivated (acheivements /leaderboard) would be & there's no way of gaming the system. Basically it would be a one way street so to speak. Once you have a "creative world" you can switch to survival at will to test things out or whatever, but if you have a "survival world" can not switch to creative without a save.
you got a couple of good valid points, the one i like is turning mobs on/off in creative whilst ingame
and yes the same reason why i build in creative, got fed up with constantly watching my back or having your work blown up
i was talking about being able to do that in any game mode (except hardcore of course, if we get it). It's not an option for tuning off monsters, it's an option to toggle between peaceful, easy, normal, and hard (sorry if that was missed in my first post, i do realize i rambled a bit) like they have in the PC version. I would be happy if it was added in, but it's not needed.

I find this more useful than switching to creative mode. Switching difficult within the game would be a lovely idea. I may not be too keen on doing the same for creative, but to me that is an ok suggestion too. I would prefer difficulty switching, as my primary world is in peaceful, even if I do have others in easy... Both suggestions are decent enough, and simple to work in, however not so easy to fully capture all the loop holes that go with it. If every angle can be reasonably done then that would at least appease the leader board crowd.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

the "simple fix" would probably have the game save and switch modes/difficulty, thus ensuring the proper leaderboards would be registered (or in the creative situation, disabled). simple (from a logic standpoint, unsure from the coding aspect), and probably very effective.

Make it even easier to switch?
No.
God I'd hate to say It but hes soooo right...He is soooo right...
I know some of you and I say SOME of you have that feeling where you wanna
switch to creative to spawn in some slim or get some TNT to blow up some space or whatever,
But can't do it because all that work you did without using creative.
This doesn't even have to have anything to do with the leaderboard.
And Like Geneo said, Once you start you can't stop.
I know because its happened to me. Now that I look at it like this, I wanna try and make
a world without Dupein Nor Creative. I wanna see how far it takes me. I think it'll be great.
I also thought being able to change in mid game was a great idea too, Then I thought...wow this would make MC 10x easier

I understand, and I've actually been testing the limits to my will power (which turns out to be a little greater than i expected) by building a world in pure survival. i will say, it's a LONG, monotones, and almost hypnotizing process of chopping stone/wood/sand/dirt, smelting the ores you find, Terra-forming, and searching for diamonds before being able to start on your build. And TBH, it is probably best (on anything larger than a smallish village scale) to wait until villager trading to attempt it, just for the ability to gain non-renewable items a little easier.
