The map resolution is 4 pixels per chunk and a chunk is 16x16 blocks. So if you want anything like a marker to show up on the map all you need to do is make it 8X8, make sure it is open to the sky and then have your map open after you make it.
Looks to there's a village I want to remember, I shall dump lava on it and everything will burn, but I will remember where to find that village now.
Funny but build a containment type thing for preferably out of a type of block or glass and elivate or raise it couse most animals are real dumb and either stand to close and git burned or jump in.I dont know about villagers never tried to see and if you want you can make it safer by encasing it in glass blocks makes for a light source.Very cool decoration.Saifty First build container first.Just being cautous couse I know there are some people out there that will try it the other way around.and to remove it use an iron bucket or pour water on it mining the Obsidean/Coblestone with a Dimond pickaxe.

I do enjoy to make jokes, I'm not the type to use lava as decoration however I do use it in traps with redstone.
Stacks of cobblestone with torches on top are good indicators for me... I don't use the map other than to see which direction I need to head..
I use to use that meathed too but that was in servival and I still kept gittig lost then I started playing with Neather rock if you Light it up with your Fire Starter you can watch it burn forever even in the rain kind of like a tourch but better but the animals are dumb enough to set themselves on fire you can even use the stuff to decorate the outside of your house if its some type of stone it sparks like lava so wood and trees would burn and be careful with it it is still like fire.the person who showed me how to do it burned half his world by accident. You can it when you run out of wood and you dont want to go scavage for wood.I used it for a garden heater make shure to keep plants 1 or 2 blocks away.Neather rock is cheep effichent and maks for a great stone fire place but keep anything flamable 1 or 2 blocks away.Even set Neather rock on ice it will melt it but the Neather rock will stay in place.
Have you ever tried stopping a massive lava fall created by one block either flowing down a mountain or straight down?

Actually, a straight down column of flowing lava isn't all that tough to remove. Get two buckets, one filled with water and one empty. First, at the bottom, place the water so that the outflow area turns into cobblestone (You might have to collect and place the water a few times to get all the way around the outflow area. Then, so you're far enough away from the flow to not get burned, but close enough so that you'll be able to collect the source block, jump-place using gravel, dirt, sand, etc. your way up to the level of the source block and collect it. If it is a straight-down column, it will all disappear after a little bit. Falls can be a little more involved and may require more placements of water at various levels; but they can too generally be contained with only a littl effort. Just don't get into the mess of trying to place blocks inside the falls (which more often than not causes the lava to spread farther).

It might certainly help some griefers to make their mark on your map.

When you have 20-ought things scattered everywhere in your map, or found something you want to later explore, that might not be the easiest feat....

I use it in creater mode cause I never pay much attention to the numbers
Just one source block works. Not sure how that can be next-to-impossible.
