Usually, when I see people's creations, they're usually crappy remakes of PC maps or other stuff. Also, no one can make anything original. All I see are Hunger Games, Spleef, etc. I know that was a long rant, but I just had to let my feelings out. Anyways, back on topic, I tend to do more original things, but sometimes, I just look up tutorials on youtube.
I build medevil stuff more than anything, but I also do a lot of Roman era and stuff like that. I love builidng of my immagination but do get ideas off of what other people build or how to design rooms off of what people do.
I don't understand why anybody would directly copy somebody else's work, but I admit that I often draw inspiration from previous builds. I would never copy anything block for block, but reusing somebody's concept is a good way to start, in my opinion.

I see tons of people who copy other peoples work. I friend of a friend whos world I visited once was just filled with structures I've seen people build on the PC. He just copied tham and built them in his world.
I honestly do not see any fun in that style of building. I would much rather stare at a portion of my map until something comes into my imagination. Then I go from there.
Depends what i'm doing but I like to mix it up a bit. Sometimes I just find something really cool and use it. Most of the time I take the idea and make it my own from scratch.

when it comes to redstone mechanisms, it's mostly copies, but i do a bit of customization in circuits as well.
