So I'm playing on creative mode until the bug fix update(my survival is broke ) and I'm trying a bunch of different piston/sticky piston/red stone on different farms and what is very easy to harvest things. Anways I've built several different mushroom farms and using a lot of the same conditions I do when I played on survival and I haven't grown a single mushroom. So is it creative mode or what is the optimum mushroom growing conditions so I can compare to what I have.
So I'm using a very low light enviroment, all the musrooms are on mycellium, so should grow fast and it is setup like this:
m...m
X....X
XXXX
So the mushrooms(m) are sitting up top and then they spawn on the blocks sitting below in the channel(setup for easy water clear), I've used this setup MANY times on all my survival maps with essentially NO light and I've always got lots of mushrooms, but my creative farm so far has spawned ZERO mushrooms after several hours.
The only way a mushroom grows faster is either with bonemeal or it is growing in a mushroom biome. The mushroom grass block has no effect on how fast the mushrooms grow, only the lighting does, and what I mentioned in the first sentence.
Just a common misconception. It is like saying you can make a mushroom biome anywhere beyond the actual biome itself.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I've noticed that mushrooms grow slower after the last update. I have a room in a mushroom biome that only gets light when I come in to check growth, and I can only get one mushroom to grow after about 5 game days

I've noticed this to, some of my old mushroom farms don't grow near as fast as they used to, where I would get a full stack of red and brown I'm now getting a third of that.

The reason I used mycellium is the wiki specifically mentions that mushrooms grow fast on it:
It doesn't say it has to be in a Mushroom biome, just that it grows faster on Mycellium.
Well since the wiki is up to date with the pc version... and this is not the pc version, I would have to say that some info on their does not pertain to xbox version. Whom is to say if that feature made it to xbox, except for 4J. All I know is that in the biome the reason it will grow quicker is because you do not have to pay attention to lighting when making a farm, not that they actually will. If outside the biome you have to pay close attention to lighting & of course the space you use.
Like the person above me mentions the mushroom growth has indeed been nerfed. That is mainly because we got the mushroom biome. Whether or not they put in the mushroom grass to affect mushrooms outside the biome I really don't know for sure on the xbox version. On the pc yes of course it will and the wiki will be correct for mainly the pc version. They really aught to spell out the difference on the wiki page. What is on pc and what is on the xbox and other editions.
That would clarify things a bit..lol Anyway only testing will tell. Trial and error.:D

"As of Beta 1.8 mushroom spreading is nerfed, so that a mushroom will only spread if there are fewer than 5 mushrooms in an area of 9x9x3 around the original mushroom. This has made Mushroom farming very inefficient and many of the formerly proven methods (notably the "water flushable pentapipe") will not work in 1.8+. However, the addition of Huge Mushrooms provides a faster alternative."
Although it also says,
"Mushrooms will only spread if there are fewer than 5 mushrooms in an area of 9x9x3 around the original mushroom (edit: tested in SMP 1.3.2, this seems to be untrue)."
Oh well that just sucks in general, I really liked making my mushroom farms..... So there has to be fewer than 5 mushroosm in an area of 9X9X3.....ugh, that would be hard to do in general. I know this is not true, because I've made mushroom farms in the current update and it still works, but it was so SO SO slow. Well to the request thread so that this is changed, we get such a TINY mushroom biome in like a crappy location far away from everything, they should have left mushrooms alone.
One thing I noticed accidentally is that mushrooms grow crazy fast when placed on soul sand... I put a couple as decoration on soul sand and then came back and they had grown wildly all over the soul sand and onto the stone floor.

I'm glad I harvested 18,000 before it changed.
So sad they're nerfed....
Stay fluffy~
Thats very interesting.
Must give this a try. +1
You gave my +1 to black bear! lol.. Yeah but try it. Just kinda happened, and it was well lit as well. Not dark or anything.
Oops... I'll give you yours now. I guess he gets a freebie.
