Leaderboards are too unbalanced. They don't include things like killing ghast and include things like milking cows which is too easily exploitable. It's interesting to compare stats with friends but with mob grinders etc. it's in no way accurate. So take them out of the game.
I've personally never really cared too much about them, but my friend told me he pretty much lives for them and is the entire reason he plays worlds on survival hard, so he can go way up on the leaderboards. So if they took them away... He'd be mad
The only way I would except them removing the leaderboards is if they added stat pages. That way you can still see everything.
Updating the leaderboards aren't exactly high on 4J's list right now. They would rather fix the bugs in the game and get it updated to 1.2.3.
I would LOVE to see a stats page for each individual map that shows all the people who have played in that map, what modes they have played in, the hours they have played in each mode, and what they have done. I would like to see stats for both blocks mined and blocks placed, which would give some indication as to who is actually doing the building and who is effectively just watching the others work. Since it would be reflecting the stats for just one map, the data would be, I think, more meaningful in that stats for adventure maps wouldn't be lumped in with stats for 404-like challenges.
As far as the leaderboards go, they are completely meaningless and also seem to cause a lot of discord among groups of players. i would like to see them eliminated, but I don't think that will ever happen... so, they really, really need to revamp them somehow.
As a mostly offline player with an offline only gamertag, I'm ecstatic that 99% of what I do in Minecraft will never see a leaderboard regardless of whether or not I keep the map 100% survival or not and that I can't even view the leaderboards when I play because it's an online feature only.
I really don't care since leaderboards can be moded and actually don't show how good or bad you are ( actually minecraft isn't about being good at it because some people are good making redstone circuits or other may be good at building stuff ) just show how many hours you spend playing it
I don't wan't them removed, I would rather have them be updated to include every block mined, almost like a mining journal.

It's nice to see how people each play the game, so I'd like to see them updated to include more blocks. But even then, the leaderboards neglect what someone might do in Creative mode, but doing just a timer isn't exactly accurate either...
However you view it though, leaderboards shouldn't be the reason you play Minecraft; you should play it for fun. And if there has to be time invested in something, I'd rather have it invested in getting us more updates and bug fixes than a shiny leaderboard.
Well, the leaderboards aren't perfect for me, but I'd miss them if they were gone. Just this morning I was in my survival world and opted to mine some redstone instead of sleeping. So I wondered: "How many times have I worked through the night instead of sleeping?" And then it hit me: I'd like to see stats for individual maps and all-round totals for the gamertag. How bad is my insomnia on the Minecraft homeworld?
I would rather them rework the leaderboards into more like what others have mentioned, a stats page; including having a spot for creative on the list. Whether to keep or not I don't know. Having at least a stats page added would be nice, so you can see what you have done in the game modes rather than only what you have done in survival only (untupped by creative).
Stats are better for personal progress reports than those leader thingys...O_o

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
If they were accurate and didn't have a limit, then definitely. After losing hundreds of thousands of blocks in stats after having my stats reset randomly multiple times I would just rather have them gone. Right now since I haven't played much since the last time it reset it hardly looks like I've done anything, when I should have many of them maxed, and some of the harder ones on their way (might be around 4000 obsidian mined).
Actually, now that I think about it, leaderboards for a game like MC is kinda pointless. I mean, its not like COD where it records all kills, deaths, etc.
I can't say I really understand the point of removing them, though I agree with their flaws. I guess from my perspective, if you don't want the leaderboards in the game why not just ignore them?
I'm aware of the concept of "other people", I just don't get it.
I agree with the majority here. I check the leader boards a lot, but only to check my own stats and not to compare to others. So, if the leader boards go away I really hope they are replaced with personal stats that maybe you could compare to only people in your friends list. Completely taking away the stats would be a real bummer to me.
I didn't place a vote because the options don't really suit my opinion. I would vote "Yes, only if replaced by a personal stats page"
I know for a fact that an unknown amount of stats have been totally missed on the leaderboards, for whatever reason. This is while playing online, in a world not previously worked in Creative Mode.
Also, the tops of the leaderboards cannot possibly be legit. If they are, there are too many people with too much time on their hands.
Ultimately, like most leaderboards, MC360's are tainted and impossible to take seriously. However, I can't imagine 4J removing them, both because it's not a game-changing element and because there are enough people who'd get upset to make avoiding the problem easier than deleting it altogether.

What about a stack of Lapis blocks? And this was before enchanting for Fortune was possible.
