Me and my Friend have been working on getting the minecart achievement for the past week. The one where you travel 500m in a single direction from where you start. Well, we are in survial mode, never once did we switch over to creative mode. Our minecart track is over 500m long it is completely straight, no turns.. no ups and down. yet we still did not recieve the achievement..
in survial it gives the host to option to fly.. so I have been flying and my friend thinks that is a form of cheating (being in creative mode) and that is why we did not recieve our achievement, but I think that it have nothing to do with it.
I have a functioning railway that runs about 600-700 blocks at bedrock.
If you'd like the achievement, send me a message concerning it. o.o
This is why I hate the fact that gamerscore (and whatever they call it on Playstation) was introduced to console gaming. People go through so much trouble over these achievements/trophies... but, why? I know this is drifting away from the topic at hand, but I'm honestly curious as to what motivates people to do these things. Gamerscore has no purpose, it's a number that means absolutely nothing. It doesn't show that you're better than someone, or that you've spent more time playing videogames than someone. It just shows how much you like to complete random trivial tasks.

I think it is just like goals. You know? Gives you something to strive for while playing the game.

People like to earn things. Especially when it was something difficult to do. I myself am always quiet happy to her that bleep bloop. It's especially good for people who are completionists. It adds another layer to the game to complete.
The same thing can be applied to almost anything in gaming. Leaderboards, what is the point? It's just numbers. Yet people still enjoy them.

I care nothing for gamerscore.
I see achievements as goals to complete and challenges.
However, this track came along with my Slime farm.
I'm motivated to get them because the challenges have been set before me.

Leaderboards are different, they are a comparison between yourself and your friends or the player base. They're a rough estimation of how good you are, how you stack up against the population. Some games have a better leaderboard system than others in this respect. For example, leaderboards on Minecraft prove nothing, since it's a game where being "good" can mean a thousand different things. You could be good at PVP, survival, building, (which has 47,000 sub-genres within itself) wood chopping, fishing, pig racing, kanoodling, cornswaggling, butter slapping.
Alright, this is getting flat out nonsensical. I should really consider sleep soon, time to wrap it up.
I suppose I'm just old school. I miss a time in gaming where everyone made their own goals, no matter how ridiculous. I remember 90% of the fun in Halo 2 (and most original Xbox titles) being to simply exploit fun little glitches. Super jumping and exploring outside of a map's boundaries could provide countless hours of entertainment. Not anymore, now most games will auto-kill you for being outside of the play area for around 10 seconds. Hell, there's no such thing as a fair fight anymore either. Now every game has to be a partial RPG (which isn't right for FPS) where the high level players who have had the game longest have an advantage over everyone else. Back in the day, your level was actually a representation of how good you were, not how long you've been playing. Your level provided no benefit, other than status and respect, and it could go down if you lost.
Okay, every time I start a sentence it rambles on into a paragraph having nothing to do with my original point. I believe it is my bed time.
As someone else has already posted, even if you stay in survival mode but activate the host privileges, the achievements and leaderboards will be disabled for that world just the same as if creative mode had been used. It's really too bad that you didn't realize this before you went to all the trouble of building your railroad. I have helped a few different people build railroads in their worlds in Survival mode and I know it does take a bit of effort to collect the resources needed and lay the rails. However, of all the achievements, I think this one is actually the best and that it is worthwhile for people to try to build their own rather than just find someone with a ready-made one to ride on. I know I learned a lot while I was building my first one. I guess you'll just have to chalk this one up to a learning experience as well.
if you still need help and just want to get the achievement just to have it i still have my original world called what world? with the achievement but i recommend that you earn it to be able to feel accomplished
Message me before friending me if you are interested @snoborder93

Thank you for your offer Me and my friend have tried 4 times on 4 different worlds to get this achievement. I think we will try one more time! Thank you anyway.
Actually if your part of the MS Live rewards scheme (google it) you get ms money back for purchases on live plus free points for various things or sometimes free gifts. If you have over 25,000 gamer score you get 2% ms monies on all transactions on live.
Well how about that, you learn something new every day. That's a pretty small reward for 25,000 gamerscore though. 2% cash back on all the MSP purchases I've ever made would only come out to somewhere around $10. And that spans across three different XBL accounts. I guess that would be better than nothing though, I admit defeat. v_v

how hey that's how I use achievements! I compare achievements to see if others have also achieved what I have, or too check to see how far other players have gotten in a game. I like to compare who has more achievements in a game, not overall gamerscore.

"Only the trees which you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, to build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it is subdued." (Deuteronomy 20:20 NKJV)

If I'm understanding your question correctly. Yes it will. It turns them off for that map from that point forward... forever. You can earn achievements on other maps on that XBox (server) that have not ever been in creative mode or had host privileges activated. That is, it does not affect all maps on the XBox.

I enjoy leaderboards--at least for Minecraft--because I can see how much of certain things I've done.
