From doing some reading on the Microsoft website, I believe I can play a Minecraft map I've made on my XBox at my friend's house (who also owns Minecraft) if I copy my map, and filesave info onto a USB and temporarily move my profile information onto the USB stick as well. My profile that owns this map is an offline one, not connected to Live, does this matter?
Because this is an offline only profile, I don't believe I have any sort of password on it and I don't see anyplace to create one. Is this an issue?
When I get to my friend's house, do I have to move my profile information from the USB stick onto his XBox or can I just leave the USB connected to the XBox? Will the map play OK directly from the USB stick (offline local splitscreen)?
When my friend and I are done playing and I want to take the map back home and reload onto my XBox, will I need to have his profile information and/or Minecraft filesave info on the USB stick?
I am only interested in doing this legitimately within the bounds of the XBox and Minecraft TOS. Is it?
In my experience as long as you are using the same username/gamertag the map save file will pop up on YOUR system off the usb stick...
I've done it before.
Played on my son's xbox... with my GT.. Saved to usb stick.. Stuck usb stick in MY xbox.. loggeed on.. File appeared in the load screen..
I hope that's what you're asking.. if so it works very easily.

I'm wondering about getting my profile (which is offline only) onto my friend's XBox and then getting it back onto mine since the XBox storage part only gives an option for moving a profile and not one for copying it. Before this, I was using my son's gamertag which has a Live account (with his permission), so I think now it might have changed in that, when we bought the second XBox, he license transferred Minecraft onto the new box and created an offline profile for me and I started my new worlds up using that profile.
I have an old world I created before on the old XBox using his gamertag that doesn't show up on my list of available games unless I have him sign in his gamertag on the new XBox first and actually play Minecraft using his gamertag; but I can then play online in that world. On my other newer worlds, I can't.
On my friend's XBox, I also have an offline profile that has been set up, but it's different than the offline profile my son set up. Even if I renamed one, I can't see any way they would considered the same profile since the two were created from scratch offline on two different XBoxes. Now, when I play online from over there, we're using a guest account of his gold account.
Now, I'd like to be able to bring one of my newer worlds I've been working on at home offline over to his place and play it there with him; but I'm pretty confused with all these different profiles I have now about what I need to do to get it to show up and be playable on his XBox and then what I might need to do to get the uptodate version of it back onto my XBox when we're done.
Then The gamertag is the only restriction... The gamertag that created the save is the only legitimate way that you will have access to any saves that profile created..
So if you had a "mock profile" on your son's xbox then you would have to move that saved world and the profile used to a USB stick. And that way you have the offline profile that can access those saves. On any Xbox that has MC in it.

Well, I wouldn't really call my offline profile on my son's new XBox a "mock" profile, but I do think I have to move it onto the USB stick along with the world save I want to play and the Minecraft SaveInfo for my profile. I think, though, that this then removes my profile from my own Xbox (because the option is "move" rather than copy), right? So, now I have my USB stick plugged into my friend's XBox... Do I have to move my profile from the USB stick onto my friend's XBox in order to sign in on his XBox with my own offline profile (as opposed to using the one he's started on his Xbox for me)? Do I have to move the 2 Minecraft files (world save and filesave info) also onto his XBox? Then, if I have to move all of that onto his Xbox, then when I go home again, I would have to move it all back onto the USB and then when I get home again, I would have to move it all back onto my Xbox, right?
Then, since he would have played in my world, his Minecraft filesave info file would have the information on his player activity while in my world??? If so, would I also have to copy that file from his XBox onto the USB and then onto my XBox to ensure that my world stayed playable on my own XBox (well, technically my son's new XBox)?
To play the map on a different Xbox, you only need the profile that the map was created on. There's no option to "copy to usb" when transferring because a profile can only be on one Xbox at a time.
I'm not sure whether you need to transfer your profile to his Xbox's hard drive, but I want to say no. It wouldn't make sense to need to transfer it, as there are many people who use usbs for Xbox storage, but I could be wrong...
When getting back to your Xbox, you do not need his profile or map saves. As long as you keep your profile and save (because they're tied to your account, not his) then you should be a-okay.

I'm getting a bit confused... lol but! you can simply just always have everything within the USB stick... wherever you play.. friend's/son's xbox you simply load the profile from there, you don't have to move them(profiles) onto any xboxes... it can all be self contained to the USB stick.. even MC the game itself can be put in a big enough gig stick and literally carry the entire game/profile/saves to any xbox.. without license transfers .. it's all registered to the stick.
I am only interested in doing this legitimately within the bounds of the XBox and Minecraft TOS. Is it?
Taking any file to a USB is questionable, I'm not sure on exact Terms Contracts. What you are looking to do may break a term and agreement, but it's innocent. Hopefully this isn't seen as modding (really, it isn't) and doesn't get locked.
A possibility, not having a online profile may require hard drive data transfer cables (20$) , to transfer that offline Gamertag to your friends Xbox. Then, hopefully, you'll be able to do what OverlookeD recommended.

Wow, that's interesting to know. It might have saved some confusion around here if my son had known that one when we bought the second XBox. Thanks for your patience and all your help!! Looks like I have "USB and ready to travel."

The basic instructions for moving a Live profile from a console onto a USB in order to play on another console are on the Microsoft website, so I don't think that would be awry of the TOS. Yeah, I'm not sure about the offline ones (let's call the subprofiles) since I don't see a separate password for them like my son's has with his profile that has the Live account. Could it be that I would also have to move his profile information onto the USB and use his account password? (If that's the case, I don't really want to bother messing with it even with his permission since I wouldn't want to take a chance on messing up his account).
Another tip is if you purchase an XBLA title... and let's say you want your friend to have it.. and he lives down the street...
Download that title on HIS xbox that will attach the game to that Xbox and any profiles attached to it can play it at anytime without you being there..........
You since YOUR gamertag bought the title YOU can always download and play it anywhere. Only restriction is that no gamertags on the second xbox can play it .. Only yours...
So first xbox anyone any gamertag can play it... but you on any xbox since your gamertag owns the rights can download the title and play it on any xbox as long as its with your gamertag.

That's not an issue since my friend owns his own copy of Minecraft on his XBox. I'm just wanting to play in my world while I'm there and to perhaps have him join in on local splitscreen. My son did have some confusion initially when transferring his Minecraft license from his old XBox onto the new one, but did get it resolved somehow after a few calls. He still owns the game (actually all the games) but i can play it on this XBox even when he's not actually signed into it at that moment. It all seems to work fine now; but I'm not sure how it's all going to work when he leaves home for more schooling a few months from now and wants to take one of the XBoxes with him to play there. I might have to go into Minecraft withdrawal or figure out how to set everything up again for my own Live account.

Again you can just buy him an xbox.. you have access to all the titles he downloaded to the old one, and he can simply re download them to the new one and BAM! good to go.

I guess I should have said that he also currently owns both Xboxes, his old console and the new one. He originally bought Minecraft for me; but then he got interested again in playing his other games on the XBox. The old console is, well, old, and he had an opportunity to get a new one really cheap, so he just transferred Minecraft onto the new one and retained his other games on the old one for now. It's all legit as best we can tell. We just can't be signed onto his gamertag on both Xboxes at the same time. Since I'm now playing on a separate offline profile 99% of the time, this isn't an issue. When he leaves, however, I'm anticipating that the Xbox he'll want to take will be the new one... so we'll have to transfer his remaining games. Then, rather than transfer Minecraft back to the old one, I'll probably just get my own account and, I'm anticipating, buy it again myself for the old XBox.

It's not questionable in the least. A USB is a valid replacement for a too small hard drive on an Xbox. The only time modding gets involved is if you transfer the files to your computer to mess with.

I do this all the time save your profile on your flash drive and your world then sign in and then its all good in nothing to hard like finding a nether fortress.
just save it in the cloud storage and just move your profile - Done
Can't do that. My profile on my son's XBox is an offline one only. I don't have any access to the cloud from that profile and if my son signs in and uses the Xbox storage functions to copy my world saves to the cloud, he then takes ownership of them... meaning that my profile can't access them at all anyway. This issue I'm concerned about is that this profile is an offline only one. The Xbox website gives instructions for a profile that has a Live account and indicates that when you plug the USB into your friend's Xbox, you will be asked to enter your Live account password. Well, my profile doesn't have a Live account and I don't have a Live account password. I don't really want to go about trying to enter my son's Live account information and password... so, I think I'll just leave my world save at home and be safe.

I meant a moderator, or possibly another user, may think it's modding. I know it is not, but other's may see it as questionable.
Does anyone have a comment on the transfer cable idea?

Not sure... When I configured the USB while signed into my offline profile, it seems to recognize when I'm saving/backing up Minecraft files to the USB that are created with that profile. I haven't had the courage to try to actually move the profile onto the USB yet (because of this mention of a password in the instructions). but the option appears to be active when I select my profile from the list under the XBox Storage>Profiles menu. Could it possibly be that for offline profiles, the system simply doesn't actually ask for any password?
