Made a seed about a month and a half ago, poured days of work into it on hard mode right from the start. Got everything just the way I wanted it and went into the nether and found not one nether fortress. Unless I want to save it on creative mode (which defeats the whole purpose of keeping it a survival seed and not disabling the leaderboards) Im screwed in terms of potion making which I was very stoked about trying out, and experimenting with. I'm hoping that maybe 4J could update existing Nethers to include nether fortresses all the time instead of randomly, because without blazes it takes out a huge chunk of the new update content for you, and you are forced to play without potions unless you want to save in creative. Which Creative I find very boring and unsatisfying, giving you everything without giving you the satisfaction of collecting and crafting everything yourself while fending off mobs and avoiding lava pits, exploring caves, and mineshafts (strongholds too if your lucky to find them or even spawn them in your seed). The update said it fixed a bug where strongholds and nether fortresses wouldn't spawn, but I guess I either got very unlucky and didnt spawn any, or the bug is still there and wont spawn any. Its just irritating to an extent to spend all the time to work up to something and come to find you cant even achieve what you have been working towards in anyway shape or form.
If you don't want to disable achievements/leaderboards, I suggest you create a new world in creative mode using the exact same seed, and then go searching the nether by blowing up large netherrack formations. Believe it or not, but almost half the worlds I dismissed because I couldn't find a nether fortress at first turned out to have fortresses COMPLETELY encased in netherrack.

Is it a chicken or is it a duck? - It's a chuck, because dicken sounds stupid.

My world was made in TU6 and I have lived quite contently with no Fortresses or potions the entire time.
Had my 1.6.6 world not been erased by the renaming bug, I'd still be in there with no bricks or melons, too.
When you go to start a new world, load up a seed in creative then check the nether to see if you have a fortress. Then delete that world and load the same seed in Survival.
Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done for your current world since you don't want to use Creative to give yourself blaze rods.
Oh and also, I know for a fact that the seed 6 has a nether fortress.
There is a very very easy fix that 4J can do to fix it so that all existing worlds can build a brewery, and that's to implement blaze in random rare mob generation, which is like the PC version.
I've been tweeting this idea for awhile now to 4J but it keeps falling on deaf ears, if your stoked about gaining a legit blaze rod in older worlds or don't have a nether fortress on your world and don't want to break into creative then do as i do tweet, tweet, tweet. We just might get lucky.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, instead of having Blazes spawn only in nether fortresses, have them on the random generation mob list in the nether. I can sure as hell do without those annoying fracking Ghasts. Urrrggghhh Coward Creepers is what I call them, at least the Creepers have the kahonaes to run up on you. Or have some other way of getting Blaze Rods, either combining gold bars, and fire when the fire comes out in the next update, with the anvil.
I've learned my lesson though, if I start a new seed and want to make sure I have what I want Ill fly around in creative and check first before pouring months of work into it. Thats the beauty of this game, you learn from your past mistakes. I was so reckless when I first started playing when it came out on Arcade, I fell in lava, lost items in the cave systems, got raped by mobs, fell off cliffs, ect., ect., and eventually you become a mindful, caculated, careful, worry wart player and prepare for every bad event until something new pops up and you learn from that experience xD Gotta love Sweden, they should make more games.
Starting in Title Update 8, the bug fix coming soon, every single Nether in every world started after TU8 will have a Nether Fortress, Nether Wart, and Blaze Spawners.
4J is adjusting the terrain generation code for the Nether to ensure that every world has those 3 things.
