Hello all. I am new to this forum, however I have been playing minecraft for about a year now... I just recently got the update for my xbox and so far im lovin it! I do wonder though since I play on survival mode on peaceful how I can plant my cocoa beans seeing as i how today I noticed that I no longer have a "jungle" area?? For the pumpkin seeds, I know I have some pumpkins on my world however for the life of me I cant seem to find them, When I created my world I did have a jungle as well as a winter area on it and it appears that they are both gone, just regular summertime land if you will with patches of ice in my waters and this has left me confused... I would love other players to come check out my world or have other players to minecraft with would be great.. Im no zombie fighter but I do enjoy the good ole farming and digging side of the game. Any thoughts advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day!
Unfortunately you can't farm cocoa beans until the "jungle biome" makes an appearance in some later update. You might of thought you had "jungles" but you didn't.
With every new update occasionally the biomes "shift" some worlds become covered in snow, grass color changes and so on.
Beyond that pumpkin seeds are off of pumpkins and In abandoned mineshafts.. But if you are playing off an old world, you would not have those available to you. Make sure you plant them on "tilled" ground/farmland and pumpkins must grow onto dirt. You can add them in with "creative mode".
Hoped that helped! and welcome to the Forums! :-D
Xbox does not have jungles yet. When you say you had them when you first created your world, do you mean you created it on your computer and then used the same seed on the Xbox? Also, in the current Xbox version you cannot plant the cocoa beans. Pumpkin seeds must either be crafted from pumpkins or found in dungeon chests.
The biome issues you mentioned also make me think you had this world on PC and now are trying the same seed on Xbox. Since the Xbox is based on an older PC version, the biomes are not the same. Xbox users are constantly facing biome changes whenever updates come so don't get too comfortable at a beach house or ski resort just yet!
I want to thank you both for your input, it made me think a bit.. If by jungle you mean "vines, swampy type areas" then yes, I had that in the begining on a part of my world on the xbox version. I have never played the pc version. I also notice that we can get apples from trees now and thats kinda cool, would be cooler if we could plant apple trees.. My current world had 3 cool things I enjoyed seeing when I traveled, one part of it was like the trees were covered in vines, the second thing was that part of it was covered in snow and the third part was just regular land with sad and trees and water etc.. the two parts that had the vines and the snow are now all gone, parts of the grass in these areas are either darker almost dead looking grass but then parts near my house are extremely bright and very pretty! I do have patches of ice where my snowy place on my world used to be.. However that is all that remains of it.. I did have the older version of mc for my xbox however as soon as creative mode came out and what not my xbox download the new updates because I am a live player.. Thanks for welcoming me to the mcf's!! I hope to play a game with some cool people sometime.

Welcome to the forums. However, if what you're saying is true about not playing the PC version, you could not have been playing Minecraft for a year (as you say in your first post), since the XBox version was only first released in May 2012 (about 8 months ago). Swamps only came into the XBox version in October 2012 (about 3 months ago), as did pumpkin seeds, which can be either crafted from pumpkins (as of November 2012) or found in MINESHAFT chests. Mineshafts were only added to the game in October 2012. Melon and melon seeds were also added nto the game in October 2012. Jungles are not in the game yet... and it is jungles that are required to grow cocoa beans. Currently (and since the game was released in May 2012) cocoa beans may be found in Dungeon chests.
Since Mushroom Island biomes were added in the 1.0.1 update (December 2012), the biome code was changed. Each time the biome codes change, the climate for all or any part of the world unavoidably changes. This happened on the PC as well when this same series of updates were done about a year ago. The climate in your world will also probably change yet again when the 1.2.3 update comes because that update will be adding in the jungles and, therefore, changes to the biome coding is also required.
Thank you upup_away95. I didnt mean literally a year, although at times it may feel that way lol and no, I have not ever played the pc version. Thank you for clarifying about my questions everyone. I guess I just need to be patient. I went back to my first map where the "viny area" was and decided to go diggin deep, In doing this I did find a chest as well as a ton of mushrooms. That area is now just like any regular area and the cocoa beans I have now came after that area changed.., quite the bumber! Thank you again all and sorry if I confused you in any way.
the main difference between a swamp and a jungle is the solid fact that the jungle trees grow taller, and the is always some kind of ground foliage that is everywhere in the biome. Foliage as in lots of bushes the cover the ground that is made of oak leaves usually. In the swamp biome their trees are very similar, even though both have vines, the swamp trees do not grow very tall, and sometimes are initially in water when they spawn on generation. more water in swamp biomes vs jungle.
Other than that beans could be found on the jungle trees. You would definitely notice the difference between the two, as it is not so easy to confuse once seen. Right now like others have mentioned all we have is the swamp, so there is nothing to compare to yet, unless you look at the pc stuff.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I am really starting to like the sounds of these Jungles. At first I thought " Oooh, lots more trees. Can't wait to spend 6 hours clearing land to build. Great" . . . I know we can get cocao beans from jungles. . .but planting them? What do they grow into? (It'd be great to mix them with milk. . . milkshake!)
If it's the same as in the PC version (which is rather likely) you can plant Cocoa beans only on jungle tree log blocks. It doesn't have to be a tree though so you can easily make a cocoa bean farm by simply placing harvested logs from a chopped down tree on top of each other whereever you like and attach Cocoa beans to them (up to 4 per log). Once attached they are displayed as Cocoa pods and as soon as they have grown fully and are of a dark orange-brownish color you can harvest them. Currently there are only two recipes in the PC version using cocoa beans though so they aren't exactly as useful as one might suggest.
Just to add to what Tamorr already said: The groundgrowth in Jungles for some weird but entirely strange reasons actually contains jungle tree logs coupled with oak leaves, which means they will drop Apples and Oak Saplings if cut down, not jungle saplings as one might expect from leaves being attached to a jungle tree log. Therefore the only source for jungle tree saplings is to destroy the leafs of those ridiculously large jungle trees or to just cut down the tree and wait for the whole shebang to come raining down.
Jungles are also a nice source for vines as they grow there naturally, are far more common in jungles than in swamp biomes and can be collected with Shears from groundlevel. Since they're essentially self-expanding ladders, they are one of the nicest things to aquire for larger build projects or branch mining .

If you're looking for something specific in your seed, you may want to try this thread : http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1610883-tu7-mcxbla-seeds-list/ .
That thread has many great seeds that I'm sure you'd be happy to use. Granted, you'd need to start from scratch...
but it would be well worth it, I assure you.
Very nice useful information indeed! I did start a new world last night, In a BIG portion of it there are trees with vines, alot rather and some of them are super tall, as well as lilly pads? Not sure what those are used for.. and I noticed I have village people lol they look rather funny lol... I havent explored further yet but plan on it sometime today.

Lily pads can be harvested, placed in a line, and used to walk across water.
Thanks again upup that sounds like an idea... Ok i'm off to explore my world. I just noticed people can share seeds? Well currently I think I have 3 worlds but if any of you would be interested in seeing what I am working with just let me know and i'll be more then happy to share with you what seeds ive come up with! Thanks again everyone you are all so friendly and helpful!
Lily pads are pretty handy for bigger farms as they allow irrigating the ground while maintaining accessibility. Not having to watch your step when replanting seeds is a big advantage after all.
And yes giving a seed you're playing with to another player allows him to play in an extremely similar world (The seed is usually generated randomly when you start a new world, however you can also manually enter one, which is then used instead). The worlds usually aren't completely identical especially when it comes to NPC villages, but the biomes and their distribution at least start of exactly the same.
