So I like many have a test world where many of us test out builds especially with red stone to perfect, and compact and get our contraption working before implementing into our world.
Now I realize that this probably should be in the suggestions section but hell I'm hoping that others may feel the same way I do before I try to take this a step further and bring it to 4j in suggestions or possibly sending it via a tweet or both whatever...
So my problem is while I'm sitting there scratching my head watching circuits carefully to try and track down any issues 20 stupid sheep, cows chickens come wandering and jumping all over my circuits. I no sooner kill these buggers sometimes messing up my circuits in the process when another 20 come in.
So I'm thinking we need an option to disable passive mob generation when loading the world, does anyone else have this annoying problem or is it just me?
Um, most of my circuits are in the air so I don't have this problem
The only thing I hate is I have a game created called "BlockBall" and it's sorta like football with a slimeball, and slimes always spawn on the field >:l
I wish we could have a difficulty but disable mobs when loading up the word like you were saying for that reason...

Funny, I had this idea a while ago... it's a great idea, especially if it's implemented for all mobs (not just passive).
But anyway, this would probably have to be a Creative mode only feature.
Now that I'm thinking about it, they should also add a respawn code for villagers or something so if they disappeared as a result of doing this, they won't be gone permanently due to them not respawning.
if your building everything in the air your circuits are awfully small, right now i'm in the midst of a massive 12 stage firing circuit without pistons, and doing all that in the air can be....tedious, but doable, i just don't like doing it.
As for penning them all in, thats just a pain, though if we did have spawn eggs i could easily create a couple of pens spawn a crapload into the pen and then kill off all the others that should do it but for now i'll just deal with the annoyance.
Truth is they kinda help releave stress, as when things aren't going right you can always take it out on that poor defenseless sheep that's staring you in the face with that silly smirk on his face, somehow things just feel a little better after sticking your sword in its gut a few times.
Remove the Grass in the Close vicinity. Animals Spawn on grass.
this is a joke right? animals will travel along distance to annoy someone if they want, in fact i believe its in the code for animals and villagers to annoy the living crap outa anyone whos building within a 64 block area.

yea, this is why i started making my minecart tracks in one of two ways:
1) Subway.
2) L train.
i never use the normal terrain for all of my tracks. All of the stopping points for my mine carts are completely covered and have a door for entry.

"All you outsiders, you haters, and liars. Your time is just counting, so come meet the mountain"
hahahaha finally somebody else feels my pain. i created a new world and spawned on a tiny little island miles and miles away from anywhere and i cant do anything without out sheep, cos, pigs and chickens en swarming me especially when i farm my wheat. deffinitely needs to be some sort of animal control
Fences are more effective in keep animals off tracks and out of areas than they are for keeping the animals in pens. Put gates at areas where you want to cross the tracks (level crossings). As suggested, put a fence around the area in which your working, remove grass in that area so that they don't spawn inside the fence and you're good.
I personally like having all the animals around much better than the dead silence we had before they increased the spawning rate in the 1.8.2 bug fix. In my pre-bug fix 1.8.2 world, I went for several Minecraft weeks without finding a single animals anywhere on the map. Having plentiful animals is also helpful for getting some quick XP on peaceful mode.
I really like the idea of being able to disable passive mobs from spawning, and exactly for the very same reason. Not only because of redstone circuits, but because of all sorts of testing out stuff that gets interrupted by animals declaring my testing area their playground.

its why i build in the air on wool platforms..

Too easy.
Blow up everything.
...Then re-make the circuit....
Stay fluffy~
