I made a chicken pen and threw down several stacks of eggs and got some chickens. I went to my mine, mined some stone, came back, and they were all gone. Why? Is it because the floor is stone brick, because I had another chicken pen made on stone brick but the chickens were just fine. So where the hell did all my chickens go? I had a LOT of eggs and I just wasted them all, apparently.

There seems to be a somewhat random despawning bug going on right now. See other thread currently running entitled "Breeding" and several other incidents mentioned throughout the Official Bugs List thread (pinned). I myself have had animals of all types and in all sorts of pens disappear when I've gone mining, including chickens. I don't think a stone floor has anything to do with it since one of the few chickens that did manage to stay until I eventually slaughtered it was one that I got by throwing a egg in my cave/house, which has a stone floor.

I am having the same problem! I get chicken after chicken into my pen where I have my other animals and they just go poof! My sheep had randomly been disappearing but now it's my chickens. It's quite annoying as I have tons of pumpkins gathered to make into pies to give me more options of food to eat but I just can't keep enough chickens to keep up... It's funny though that I apparently have a chicken trapped in the wall of my cellar because I get the random egg or two going down my ladder but yet can't keep them in my giant enclosure...

Um, NO. I have my animals on dirt/grass, and they disappear when I get away from them. Sucks to breed different colored sheep and they end up disappearing. It's just a bug, hope it gets fixed soon.
