Whatever they do, they better decide fast. The next Xbox is out this year.
I agree... although it really wouldn't surprise if the decision has already been made, whatever necessary agreements signed or well into process, and whatever work (update or new edition) work is already secretly under way.
I mean I am wondering why they can't do an "infinite" world system as that more of a memory issue than anything which the fix is then just get a bigger hard drive. Cause yes I mean I understand that the chunk loader would have issues keeping constant tab on an ever expanding map, but at the same time if your looking to build something that big and need it to constantly update in the whole area I have just a few questions for you:
A] Why?
B] Not even the PC can do that so why would you think a console could? {A: the pc thing I'm not 100% sure as I have never built something that big that needed that much updating. B: I am a Xbox fanatic, but I know that they are almost just not quite to PC standards.}
C] Why?
So in the end if they kept the same render distance or maybe shorten it by a little bit so that instead of focusing on the full map it only renders what is needed for the "immediate area". Also maybe cutting the frame rate down might help...just saying.
A: NOBODY is going to build an object that is 30,000,000 blocks wide/long, It's called exploring and surviving, What if you spawn in an all tiaga seed on a limited seed, but you want desert, you're going to have to make a new world. sometimes people want to go looking for triple spawners or other rare stuff in their world.
B: ... Umm... play more minecraft or look at the wiki more. 1.The overworld 2. chunks
While the map is infinite, the number of blocks the player may walk on is limited. The map, counting air as a block, and not counting blocks beyond and at where block physics fail (32,000,000 from the center) from top to bottom, and all in between, is essentially always 2.62144 × 1017 blocks big. The last point a person may still play normally and not fall into the void, which in layman terms the very edge of the map as of 1.2.5 is X/Z: 30,000,000.
Beyond this edge, world generation is significantly simpler. It is interesting to note that if a person installs an x-ray mod, texture pack or just flies through with Creative Mode, he or she will notice that any chunk after the edge consists of just dirt, sand, stone and water with absolutely no vegetation. Caves do generate here, but no ores or structures appear inside, and the lighting in some of these caves may appear to make them look brighter with more contrast. If a person reaches it normally, be sure to notice that the sea floor of the chunks after the edge consists of only dirt. Making it stand out, another point to note is that if a person stands on the very border of the edge the ocean will look empty and 'seemingly' be able to see as though there was no water.
C: Don't ask someone the same question twice, it's redundant.
D: The map only loads what's in the immediate area already.
Sorry for being blunt, but everything you just said was false.
We are also talking about how the game would run on the next xbox, not on the current xbox.

All I have to say on this subject is I will be ed if I have to pay ANOTHER $20 for the SAME game. Although I do not see how to continue a story that never really started in the first place, or maybe they will do something like the Elder Scrolls series, a new character in a new world starting a new journey, oh wait, that what starting a new world is lol
dumb question, that like asking will They make a minecraft 2 since I got a new computer. First of all there is no info on the 720, and if it does get released you'll just be playing the same game as you are now, just with better graphics

Exactly, other devs are already working on next-gen titles. We've seen some mysterious job listings from AAA pushers, referencing next-gen consoles. The next consoles would probably already be out by now if it wasn't for things like Kinect. I honestly believe the 8th generation won't last quite as long as the current. I can't imagine how they could re-invent consoles with current technology.
