The cloud keeps going offline so I created a game on the harddrive, me and two friends have put loads into it but it wont load up any time I try it freezes the whole xbox. it comes up just saying A or B but nothing else happens cant bring up menu just have to switch it off and back on again
Your gamesave file is corrupted. This is why you should always save a backup copy of any world you deem important.
Is there any rhyme or reason to a world being corrupted, or can it just randomly happen? I hear about it happening often, but thankfully it's never happened to me.

When My cloud went offline over the weekend. I went to system/memory and was able to still click on "cloud" even though it was not active.. It seems to have given me access to the last file as it tried to autosave/sync (which was still localized in the xbox somewhere) and I was able to load that file and continue playing.. after that I've followed Mr. NoseJob's constant preaching of double saves and memory copies on to another usb drive.. So given my experience there might still be some hope of a file there from right before the cloud went offline last.

That savegames get corrupted can happen with any game at any time. Even such simple things as minor fluctuations in the power grid can cause a savegame to become corrupted if they occur right when the game is saving. Doesn't mean it will happen, only that it can.

Is it a chicken or is it a duck? - It's a chuck, because dicken sounds stupid.

Ah, thanks. Sucks though.

Dont think ill bother with a new world if im honest but should i get the urge to how do you backup a world? there is no save as button to save it as a different name it simply auto saves to the same name.
it doesnt show currupted on the xbox, i know it can happen with any game but it generally doesnt and ive never had a currupted file on any game the old pc games in the 90's

You can choose the save device used. Just connect a USB device to your 360 and save a copy of your world to that USB every week or so as an occasional backup. I still use the Cloud but its 100% completely unreliable; I still save a copy to it but I do not rely on the cloud as they fail A LOT.
Also world corruption is random. With the adventure update, 1.8 or however; that update corrupted 3 different worlds of mine. You pretty much just take it as you go and make a new world with each new update. Its no big deal, its a world that you can make over, sometimes much better with the new update features.

It can seem random to the user, but it's really not. It just means that there is corrupted data somewhere in the file. One thing that will definitely cause this is turning off the power/removing the HDD while the world is being saved. Some people say that duplicating items can cause a corrupted file, but that doesn't make any sense and no one has provided any evidence of this whatsoever. I think that was just something the elitist survivalists came up with so they could bash others and feel superior.
Sometimes a file will corrupt in a seemingly random fashion, as I mentioned. It's difficult to pinpoint the cause, but it definitely sucks when this happens. It could be as simple as an error in hardware, the CPU somehow getting data mixed up when saving. We should feel pretty lucky though, this used to happen much more often on older consoles. Another thing that can cause a corrupted file is bringing unobtainable items into the game. I found this out firsthand when bringing in some mob spawners. It was either that, or the fact that I altered every slot of the inventories of anyone who had ever visited my world. Either way, avoid inventory modding, that's what creative mode is for.
