so i bought minecraft on the xbox a couple days ago and I love it but recentyly the game has been lagging. When i break any block it will take a couple seconds to disappear after i break it. sometimes they won't even disappear and I have to break it 2 or 3 times until it disappears. This makes mining take longer and is realy annoying. Please help me get rid of the lag.

Its lags just as much offline as online. whenever i break a block I wait but the blocks don't disappear so i have to break them again and again and it wastes my tools. I believe thats not supposed to happen. This didn't happen before.

For me, a certain amount of lag (i.e. blocks reappearing after mining them) has been going on since I bought Minecraft (just after the first bug fix update). It agree that it is a little worse now than it was before. However, 4J have always indicated that the game is pushing the limits of the XBox's RAM and since new elements have been added to the game with each update, it is only reasonable to expect that the game is pushing those limits even harder now. As a result, a little bit more lag than before is somewhat expected with each update. In truth, I had been expecting much worse.
The next update should bring in a conversion to the ANVIL format, which did result in some improved optimization when it was brought in on the PC. Hopefully, similar gains will happen on the XBox and perhaps some of the lag issues will be lessened. In the meantime, the best way I find to lessen the lag momentarily is to periodically save and exit the game and then re-enter it.

I guess you're right, they are pushing the limits of the xbox's RAM. I find that it lags less when I return to a game after exiting so until the issue is fixed i will continually save and exit.
The 'lag' has always been there but it seems to happen a lot more since the latest update, I suspect 4J will do something about it with their next bug fix update.
It keeps getting worse and worse. I hope they do fix it in the next update.
Sounds like you have both the bug and the lag.... The lag is the one that has been reported in 1.8.2, in which a few seconds the block will disappear.
The bug/glitch is when the block stays. The way to tell this is if you get the resource you are mining, and it still sticks. there is a work around to this one. Just use a non-placeable item on the block as if you were trying to place that item down.left trigger I think. Like melons or a weapon or something. The block usually will disappear after that. It is what I call a block update bug. Where the block does not update correctly, hence it reappearing.
the work around is a bit better than trying to break it several times... If it is this new one that came with the recent update.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Luckily, I've never really had the magic reappearing blocks. Guess I'm just not as open to the mystical energies as some.
However, on a few occasions, I have noticed 'jumping' blocks.
I was mining stone and a cobblestone 'floating' block dropped as usual, from about 2 blocks height. Nothing strange here you say? No the strange thing happened when the 'floating' item (Cobblestone) 'Bounced' back up to the position that it fell from. About two blocks height. This floating item, (Don't know what else to call them) kept bouncing up and down for about 20 minutes. I couldn't pick it up either. It was weird.

Anyone had this?
I haven't seen that specific version, but I have had several instances of what I call "jiggering." Most commonly now I see it sometimes after I kill an animal; they don't do the normal poof and dissappear, but instead lay down and vibrate there for a few seconds before disappearing (kind of like IRL death throws). Saving and exiting usually clears this up again for a bit, so for the time being I'm thinking it's the same sort of lag issue as the blocks reappearing one. Since you couldn't pick up the block either, I think you probably had a combo error - lag and the block update one that Tamorr mentioned.

I don't think it's lag I think it's the way the game itself memorizes this as the same thing will happen to you alone offline.
Offline lag is still lag. And the game itself doesn't do anything, per se, it's only emulation. At the same time it may, as I believe OP's issue is at least partially due to a bug. Anyway, offline lag has been around throughout the history of gaming. When a program is too complex for the hardware emulating it, it will obviously run more slowly. This could be the CPU struggling to keep up with the rate of which the program "requests" opcodes. It could be insufficient space in RAM, not allowing storage of essential data. There are many different factors which can cause framerate drops.
Makes you wonder why the xbox doesn't utilise a bigger page file for games like MC, instead of relying on hard ram. Even though it's a temporary memory, it could still speed the game up.

Well, the system cache acts like a paging file... sort of... more like a paging folder, but whatever. I'm not even sure if 360's OS even uses a paging file, and I'm doubting they would for game data. Until MCXBLA came along, the on-board memory was sufficient. Minecraft definitely wasn't developed with consoles in mind, but Microsoft saw how successful it was and said, "I GOTTA GET ME SUMMA DAT!"
1. Depending on the host connection. If there's over 6 or 7 people in the game, this may cause lag.
2.If the host has some connections problems. This will force you out of the game.
3. Placing or mining a block disappears and comes back. If that happens often. It is because the server lagged you out. If it does the same thing, leave the game; should take you back to the main menu. If it still happens. Exit the game fully (Go back to the dashboard). Sometimes clearing the cache solves anything.
4. Placing too much TNT will cause a huge lag and freeze up your entire screen.
5. Entering nether will sometimes freeze your entire screen. If it still freezes after 30-60 sec. You're forced to restart your whole Xbox.
That's all the issues I've experienced since the day I got this game.
Like I said in 1; it all depends on the hosts connection and how many people are in the on host's world.
I strongly recommend you save the game ahead of time before any of these happen to you.

If you have lots of signs in your area, try removing some, those have been known to cause some lag, but only in online mode.

Obviously the CPU couldn't be sped up.

Very true, IBM did a great job of locking it down.
