Is it just me or do they not work when I toss one they no matter how far I go they fly 3 block away from me and falls if there wasnt a stronghold it wouldn't even fly
As above, Just keep following the pearl. When it will go no further, get on digging down. If the pearl explodes with purple particles, then you are not close to a stronghold.
I couldn't get the eye of ender to work initially... I was tossing it while I was flying. Once I decided to drop out of flying mode and tossed it while I was on the ground, it worked perfectly.
It works in newer worlds, but the old worlds have strongholds too. Thanks.
Only if you were lucky enough to have one generate in an unexplored portion of an old map. It is far more likely that an old world (i.e. pre-1.8.2) does not have a stronghold.
Hmm for some reason I thought that the Eye of Ender couldn't be thrown yet, due to the fact that Strongholds don't contain an Ender Portal just yet, so it makes sense if they only worked properly when theres an 'End' to go to, and not just a stronghold makes sense to me being like that, but then in that case people would probably say it would make more sense for them not to be added until End Portals, The End, etc all got added too haha!
there are end portals... granted not functioning ones, but they are there with the silverfish spawner to boot. Only on new worlds though. I find that the eyes only lead me to the stronghold and not directly to the portal though. They probably won't function completely the way suppose to till we actually have the end to go to from there.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
when i toss the eye of ender it flies to one spot then when i get there it goes in the complete other direction
You are probably very close to your stronghold then. You could triangulate the locations to pinpoint the spot:
Write down the X and Z coordinates where you are standing when you throw the Eye. Walk to where it lands and write down those X and Z coordinates. Then, go a distance aways "sideways" from the direction it travelled and repeat - writing down the coordinates of where you throw and the coordinates of where it lands. Now, get some graph paper and plot the 4 sets of coordinates and draw lines from the coordinates where you stand to the appropriate coordinate of where it landed on that throw. Extrapolate the two lines and where they intersect is the coordinates of your stronghold (or close enough to work). If you want to be more certain, throw the eye a third time and write down another set of coordinates from where you throw it to where it lands. You may then get a triangle where the lines done exactly intersect that the same point. Your stronghold then will be within that small triangle.
Try digging down, it sounds like you are on top of a stronghold.

actually if there's no stronghold you cant throw them.
