(NOT 1.4.6, I gotthe update number wrong, I'm sorry. Just...the latest update, I don't know what it was called.)
I booted up Minecraft on our Xbox while logged in to my xbox account. It prompted me to download the newest update to the game (the one bringing in enchantments, endermen, villagers etc). I accepted download, and when it finished, it brought me back to the main "front page" menu screen of Minecraft. However, I noticed that the grey box that usually pops up to tell you what all has been updated and added to the game didn't show up. I clicked "Play Game" and the screen darkened in an odd way as the pop-up box came up for me to choose my storage device. I also noticed that the normal soundtrack music instantly stopped playing. I selected the storage device, and It took me to the box where I select my world, but the screen stayed oddly darkened, and the music was still gone. I selected my map and waited for it to load. The loading page was weirdly dark, too. When my world loaded, it was almost pitch-black, even though my last save was saved in the middle of the day. The music is still gone. The glowstones and torches in my house produce no light, and weirdest of all, my character has lost the ability to look around...meaning I can't turn the camera. Moving the right joystick does nothing. I can walk only straight forward, or back-up without turning around, and can only face the direction I was facing during my last save.
I thought the darkness was my TV, it wasn't. I thought something was wrong with my controller, there isn't. I loaded up brother's map, using my brother's account, and everything was fine, upon his first boot-up of the game after 1.4.6 was installed, he got the box detailing the new features, his screen stayed accurately lit, and the music never stopped. After loading his world, I found that it was appropriately lit for DAYTIME, and that he had the ability to move his character in every direction (using the same controller I had used in my world). The torches were working, and the new features were up and running, as well.
WEIRDEST PART - I loaded up a split screen in HIS world, with MY character/account as second player. As soon as the split screen popped-up, my half of the screen was dark black, and my character still had the inability to turn the camera/look in any direction/walk in any direction other than straight forward or straight back.
How is this possible? I've never heard of a glitch affecting/attaching itself to an individual player account. All other accounts on our system (and guest accounts) can play the game with no issues.

It is not possible. If there actually is an issue, you should probably delete the corrupted MINECRAFT profile.
Also, we are not a 1.4.6, the CPU version is.
I'm sorry if you are actually having this issue, but I don't believe you actually are, unless a video/screenshot can prove otherwise.

1.3, is what the recent update was. The equivalent of PC version 1.0.1. The first thing to do would be to check your gamma settings for Minecraft. Have you done that?
Parts of this bug have been described before. Check your settings, there's a bug that makes all your sensitivity settings revert to zero. I think that's what happened with your gamma as well, but I don't know. Just be sure to check your settings and make sure they aren't completely reset.
If that doesn't work, then you should try deleting Minecraft and redownloading it. It doesn't cost a thing to redownload it, but be sure to back up your saves to the cloud or a flash drive before you delete it.

Thanks. I'll try deleting and re-downloading after I back up my saves. I'll let you know how that works.
4. It's not gamma settings. Did you not read that whenever the game is loaded up under ANYONE else's account on our xbox, the lighting is fine. This is not a display issue, I can ASSURE you. If it were something that simple I would have had it fixed already. It's an in-game glitch effecting MY profile, MY account/character SPECIFICALLY.
*4. Scratch 4. F*** it, I was wrong there. I was so sure it couldn't be that, I was being overly-confident. My bad. I'm stupid.
It absolutely could be gamma settings. Minecraft has a gamma setting under options. It's probably that your gamma got reset, and not anyone else's. And I hope that redownloading solves your issues.
*Edit: Over-confidence gets the best of us sometimes. Glad to help.
Yes, I read that. I was just checking all bases. A lot of people come on here complaining about stuff like this, only to find their gamma has been reset.

Yeah, you're right. I was wrong. I just realized that it's not a universal setting, I'm the idiot here. I'm sorry. I really thought that gamma would be something that would effect everyone if it had been screwed up.
I just loaded the game back up and checked out all the settings. You were right, that other guy was right, all the sensitivity settings, lighting settings, and so-on had been reset to zero.
Sorry for being overly cocky. I got defensive after that dude said I was faking my issue. I fixed it. I should have looked there first instead of ASSUMING it couldn't be the problem. Thanks a lot for the tip. I haven't tried playing yet, though....
Did you also change the sensitivity settings? If so, then you should be a-okay.
Yeah, I just loaded it up. Everything's fixed. Man, that is really weird though. The music, sensitivity, EVERYTHING on my player profile for minecraft was zeroed-out. Like I said, I should have checked first instead of just assuming that couldn't POSSIBLY be the issue. It just freaked me out. Especially since my brother's account was perfectly fine while mine was still screwy even in split-screen in HIS world.

Sometimes the answer is the simplest thing, it seems impossible. And you're very welcome. Have fun playing!

EDIT: So, it was the gamma?
Yeah. Well, it was EVERYTHING. Every slider had been shoved own to zero, music, sound-effects, sensitivity, gamma...All of it. That's why everything was so f***ed up. Sorry for jumping to conclusions.

2. Yes, this issue IS with the xbox. Not on the PC. I'm not mentally challenged, I DO know the difference between an xbox and a computer.
3. I'm not faking this, that's freaking idiotic. Why would I do that? What purpose does it serve. I just want to play my friggin game.
