From wiki, in terms of growth: "It will take around 5/6 sections of the day (sun rise, midday, sun set, moon rise, midnight,moon set) to make the first section of the cacti grow in a normal area condition."

If anyone wants to play Bauldur's Gate (1, 2, or enhanced) or Icewind Dale PLEASE PM me. I'd like to play.
Basically a Cactus timer is cactus set to grow and break, then falling on pressure plate sending signal to activate whatever. Problem I am having is cactus isnt breaking at all, not passed the 1 cactus growth (2nd level) or the breaking on the third. I have sat and waited for almost 30 minutes and nothing has happened. So either they A patched it, B its a bug or C they removed it. I need someone to try and rework getting cactus to drop and break on a pressure plate, it will not grow pass second level to its third level to break.
I could be very wrong here, but maybe its some sort of block update detection with pistons setup, so that when a cactus grows to be level with the pistons, they'll automatically push the top part off, in turn breaking it into the item drop for collection. Only thing I can think of that comes to mind anyway although I don't know if that method works anyway, or maybe a manual button/switch activated one to knock the top off would work.
Hm that makes sense, I wonder how you would make it 'detect' when the cactus grows. Is it a set time or is it like with chickens where it is between 5 and 10 minutes? Because if it is a set time like 300 ticks or something then you could use redstone repeaters to time it close enough.
If you don't mind me asking, what's this "timer" activated to?
basically it looks like this
[c]p--------[>
[c] = cactus
p = pressure plate
- = redstone wire
[> = piston
