I have been digging through the forums for the last 45 minutes and not coming up with anything. Am totally new to Minecraft and apologize if this was already addressed and/or is a really retarded question.
I am in creative mode and am trying to build a cave house I am digging out myself. I have been making sure all of the entrances are closed/sealed but spiders and zombies keep showing up. I have the place lit by torches as I work but some of the wall blocks have only corner edges touching (working to fix that).
Well in my experience it is best to have a bedroom in a house. That is a small room in which the bed does not touch the walls, and a door at the entrance. Lighting that up well should be enough to sleep the night off.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I always have this issue, since I pretty much stay to the hermit style and build all my stuff underground. You just have to have enough of a light level for no mobs to spawn. I make sure the light overlaps from each source, that way there are no potential dark spots for anything to spawn.

Why do monsters keep showing up?
Thank-you! Glowstoned the crap out of the ceiling, made sure to double block all the walls, and so far no monsters. Thank-you!
