I play Survival mode and follow my leaderboard stats (So Creative mode is not an option). I think the abilty to enchange my items is great and would like to have the highest level enchants possible (Like everyone else). But I have noticed that acquiring the experience is not a easy task. I am reluctant to spend 30 exp when I get them on a sword that might not have the enchant I want. Not being able to read the enchants listed doesn't help the situation. I know I could save prior to enchanting and If I dont like it just reload but what fun is that.
So what are you doing to gain experience (Without a spawner grinder for experience)
What I do is usually give a really weak enchantment to an iron sword (1 or 2) then use all of its durability. Repeat until you get level 30. That's what I've been doing until recently, when I made a mob farm.

There is nothing to read in the enchantment thing. That language that appears when choosing which to enchant with it just words that don't really pertain to the enchantment that you will get. Enchanting is completely random. The only thing that is not completely is the fact that you will have a higher chance to get more than 1 on the item/tool at higher levels.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
It's more fun that re-grinding 30 levels of xp I have always hated a completely random game mechanic. I'd prefer having that ancient text give a clue as to the outcome of the enchant. Anyway, I'm finding mining coal/redstone/ and killing the occasional mob is not bad. But most of my xp has come from camping a blaze spawner. With Iron armor enchanted to just level 1 protection, a fire resist potion and a decent sword you can just stand by the spawner solo.
DivadOcsalev --> This sounds like something I will have to try. I don't want to waste EXP so if the return is greater than the price - this should work.
Irish_Dave --> Not sure what a save editor is (sounds like something for the PC not the Xbox).
I'm finding getting XP reasonably easy, even without an XP grinder (still working on building one). My world has an abundance of animals and coal and iron, so I get a lot through killing passive mobs, mining coal, and smelting iron ore.
I'm playing harcore survival and have done nothng but kill animals and a few wild mobs (just found a zombie spawner. Even without a grinder I'm up to level 28 with minimal time.
Seems that you only get xp for mining some things and not others. I was surprised you get none for iron (but quite a lot for coal) but maybe their rationale is that you get xp when you smelt the iron?
Anyway, just mine all coal. Murdering passive mobs is also effective at the moment. I'm hoping spawn rates are reduced again soon though to make breeding more essential.
yes. that is possible and makes sense. After there has to be some kind of balance to it... why get xp twice for doing something twice. that is like saying I killed a zombie 2 times, and was the same zombie, which in logic would make no sense at all. That is the way I understand it. So anything you have to smelt gold/iron you only get from smelting, otherwise you can place, and then mine again. It is also a way to stop something like getting xp too easily, as those types can be mined and placed that way.
I can also assume, not that I have tried it, that if you use silk touch pick on an ore like coal, you will not get the xp until you actually mine it into coal. So in a way it can be put to stop or redirect the xp to what matters and not overbalance to flow. something like that...:D

Mostly from coal though.
