Me and my brother tried to play splitscreen, and he kept pressing start, but it wouldn't work.
He logged in to an account with LIVE, and we both have LIVE, but I have LIVE GOLD.
Any help?
Are you using an HD TV with either HDMI or RGB component cables? I'm not sure whether or not it could be something to do with the LIVE accounts. Trying unchecking the "online game" box and see if he can sign in then. If he can, then you're probably right that it has something to do with his not having a gold account (although I don't really understand why that would be the case). We use local splitscreen offline a lot and have never had a problem with any of the gamertags/profiles on our XBox joining in splitscreen (even if they don't have any connection to LIVE whatsoever).

9/10 it's that HD issue. That's what keeps me from playing splitscreen. My finances are way too tight to allow me to spring for a new TV while my old one is still working. So when my friends come over we have to take turns. I really wish you didn't have to have and HDTV for splitscreen, but i'm sure there's a good technical reason for that limitation that I'm simply not aware of.
Now i do know that i have joined games where others were playing splitscreen and we had no problems. not sure about the whole one person needing gold. If that's the case you could always try having him log in on a guest account and simply leaving all of his possessions in a chest before you guys log out. If you don't store them then anything on the guest account will be lost forever after you quit.

Retired StaffHe is not playing the game in HDTV, or he is not using a HDMI cable. Standard TVs does not support Minecraft split-screen.
