I was playing a survival world with my friend, and I started to lag really badly, to the point where chunks wouldn't load, and I walked off the chunk and landed onto the void, I walked ontop of it for a while until I was disconnected. So then I made a superflat world and did an experiment.
I used the (you must be Completely surrounded by solid blocks, even above you for it to work, also, don't break the minecart, just exit it). to glitch into the bedrock, but I was just standing inside the bedrock.
I could still walk inside the 1x1 block space I was confined in, and I didn't take any damage from being "in the void"
Build a 3x3x3 (at bedrock)structure with a hole in the middle. [above view]
And place a rail and a minecart in the center, enter the minecart, then cover the top with a solid block.
Then just exit the minecart, (don't break the minecart until you exit it) and break all the blocks around you, then you can turn the camera into 3rd person or 3rd person reverse to see the effect. the lower half of your body will be stuck inside the bedrock, and you SHOULD be entering the void, but you do not.
That is why I think the void doesn't exist yet.

Well, it was in 1.6 and I lost everything I had. ;(
If I remember right, I read somewhere the void holes were fixed. It was accessible though, I found a hole a while back.
That sucks you lost stuff in survival, oh the risks of Minecrafting, lol.
Actually, before 1.82 if you fell in the void your xbox got an error message and will sometimes corrupt the world. If you do it again on the same world it freezes your xbox. So you have lied from your comments, you do not die from going into the void. You're xbox does.

They could also make it so that the void will instantly kill you and despawn any items within a 20 block radius around where the player landed, and the player would also auto-respawn to stop thair dead body from falling even further into the void.
