UPDATE: Confirmed on Twitter that they're already tweaking Nether generation. How about strongholds?
4J, with TU8 and The End dimension on the way, I think now is a prime time to change the way the X-Box Edition generates a world. The change doesn't need to be drastically different from the PC version's, but it does need to take into account the following two points:
1. Every seed needs to be guaranteed an unbroken Stronghold, complete with an unbroken Portal room. This means that Strongholds need to intersect caves and be generated AFTER other structures such as mineshafts or ravines. At the very least, the portal room needs to be guaranteed this much, as a portal room with a broken portal is as worthless as no portal at all; either way you aren't getting to The End, and "beating the game" becomes impossible.
2. Also to avoid breaking the portal room, strongholds need to be restricted away from the map boundaries, lest we get a weird scenario where half the portal is cut off by the world's edge.
Half the fun of doing the End Dragon adventure is building yourself up in a fresh, unexplored world. Some of the magic disappears when you're forced to look up and use a seed that everybody already knows about. It's also highly disappointing when you take a chance on a random seed and spend time getting yourself built up and prepared for the journey, only to discover that you can't possibly finish it. Popping into creative mode to give yourself what you need is also a lackluster solution for players like me, which there are plenty of, who are strict about playing purely survival on a survival map, and/or also enjoy competing on the leaderboards.
So 4J, I hope you read and consider doing this for TU8, it would make a lot of us survivalists happy.
Disclaimer: I am not trying to imply that using creative for any reason is somehow wrong or cheating yourself or anything like that, I'm simply stating that a lot of us would rather just not use creative on survival maps at all. Please don't let that discussion take over the main point of this thread!
Re that last bit, you shouldn't have to explain yourself. Being able to complete the game without switching to creative is not an unreasonable nor unrealistic request.
given the limited world size and how it affects generation I can say I mostly agree with your sentiments. How many strongholds are there on the 360? I know on PC there are 3, (usually?) so the chances of finding all of them with knackered End Portals is very low.
You'd be surprised at what a hot button issue it can be, though.
And on average, the number of Strongholds in an X-box world is "maybe".

I am pretty sure the strongholds are just for show - at least right now anyway.
I should not even have to tell you this but Minecraft is non-linear and "The End" is hardly an End because all it does is play credits and return you back to the title screen then you can go back to the world and do whatever you want to.
For everyone who is still complaining about world size - welp here a few ideas for 4J:
-Option to toggle smooth lighting in exchange for a somewhat larger world size (less stress on the system)
-Option to change rendering distance (examples: tiny, medium, and large) - the smaller the render distance the more likely we will get a larger world
-Option to disable "higer quality" stuff (examples: 3d clouds, water animations, lava animations, and a few others)

Well sure, but the quest to beat the dragon is still a large part of the game, everybody is going to be interested in it at least once when TU8 comes out.
Ya I guess it will be pretty cool. I mean I have not gotten to it yet on the PC version but I think the fight wil be pretty epic. The one thing I don't really like about the whole "quest" thing is that it kind of takes away from making Minecraft open ended and not having a goal. On one hand it is not the entire point of te game but I don't want to see Minecraft turn into a full blown RPG (on any version).
I agree that every seed should have at least one stronghold and one nether fortress. Nobody should be getting a seed that doesn't contain the bare minimum requirements to complete The End when that time comes. I'll admit I started my TU7 world off a seed I found listed on a forum somewhere, I simply don't have the patience to build up a world and find out I'm lacking certain things. Glad to hear that 4J is looking into a fix.
It's very cool that 4J are going to do that. But that's only one of the problems. The other problem is that even if you do get all the structures you need, terrain generation can mess things up, e.g. when a ravine is generated right through the end portal room and destroys it. It's unlikely that this happens to all three end portal rooms at once in the PC game, but it only has to happen once in the Xbox game to spoil your day.

Also well said. I agree. They need to tweak the stronghold code as well to ensure that the portal room stays intact.
For what it's worth, that tweet says nothing about stronghold generation.
That tweet was referring to a bug fix update that's coming in Jan. Hopefully, as the OP stated, the strongholds are something that they'll look at for TU8.

not everybody... As i am not interested in the very least to do battle with it... but on the same note I must rid of it so I can build an ender farm.... Still no interest just something in my way....lol

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Come to think of it, it might actually be that structures like fortresses are the last thing generated in a world. I have to things that could serve as proof.
1) In a previous world, I had one corridor of an abandoned mineshaft cross a ravine - it looked like a bridge, actually.
2) The Nether fortress in my current world is mostly engulfed in netherrack; it's right outside the windows. Yet there isn't a single netherrack block inside the rooms and corridors of the fortress.
This means that the only real problem is that sometimes structures are generated too close to the edge of the level. NPC villages are the best and most obvious example for that. And it also happened to my aforementioned Nether fortress - the only blaze spawn is in spitting distance to the bedrock wall.

you're telling this to someone who plays PC version regularly and has been to The End more times than I can count. Read: I know.
Also, re world size. Stating facts about it that are pertinent to the discussion is not "complaining" about it.
thanks and goodbye!
[sarcasm]Oh I am so sorry I did not know that I a mere peasant was talking to someone of such high status and plays on the PC version.[/sarcasm] I and many others on this part of the forum probably own the PC version as well it does make you much a difference at all so I do not know why you felt the need to specify the platform.
Also you know there is this magical button on your keyboard called the shift button it is this newfangled contraption that when held can make upper-case letters and when let go of it lower-case letters - amazing isn't it? It makes you look like far less of an idiot.
