How do I get an actual crafting menu (when you open the crafting table) that doesn't already have the items you can craft in the menu for you to just click on?
I've noticed that there are certain items that are not in that menu, and I would really like to craft quite a few of them. Is this just an xbox thing? Or is it because I'm still on the first world I opened when I opened the tutorial? I would really hate opening a whole new world when I'm not finished with this one, but if this is the case, then it would definitely be worth it.
What I mean by the "legit crafting menu" is that you just have the 3x3 square that you put items into to make a whole new item. Right now I just have a menu that offers you the ability to craft certain items, more basic items from what I've seen.
As you can tell I'm a total newb with slightly higher than basic ideas (i guess, lol) so I may be seen around here with a few more questions.
Also, if there is a newb thread around here somewhere could someone please lead me to it? I couldn't find one but I think one would be massively useful.
It's a streamlined thing for the Xbox. Crafting with your hands, there is a little 2x2 crafting table in the corner that shows you how the stuff is put together, but you aren't moving the pieces around on it. Crafting is done with the Xbox crafting menu.
A crafting table will let you use a 3x3 table equivalent to make more advanced stuff like in PC.
They only have the 3x3 crafting menu in the PC version. They eliminated it from the Xbox version because it would be too hard to drag stuff round on the screen to make the item in any timely manner. It would get tedious and boring.
But the Xbox version is on an earlier update than PC, so it's possible that the things you want to make are not in this version as of yet. Everything you can make is in that crafting menu in any world you play in, it doesn't matter that it is the tutorial world.

From some of your comments about their only being the basic items, I'm wondering if you're not accessing the entire crafting interface on the XBox through the crafting table. It has several different tabs across the top and many of the items have more items in the same slot that you need to scroll down to in order to select them. Virtuauly everything craftable in the game to the equivalent PC version (i.e. 1.0.1) is available through that crafting interface.
i think it would be a great idea to introduce the old crafting menu
and that you will get extra points for using it, instead of the new system
Meh. I'd rather spend my time playing the game rather than looking up crafting recipes on the Wiki and dragging and dropping item after item into little slots.

It sounds to me like you haven't made a crafting table yet and are only crafting with the 2x2 crafting menu.
You have to make a crafting table, then use that to get access to the 3x3 crafting interface.

It'd be holy heck to drag and drop stuff on there.
Making signs is bad enough without a keypad; crafting would kill....

it's easy enough to use a USB keyboard to type it in once you place it. Or just use the Smartglass app from your phone/tablet.
