I like my current world. It’s an epic achievement. I could say I’m nearly done… but that would be deceptive: There’s always a new project, a new hill to conquer, a forest to replant, a city to build underwater, and a cavern to plunder!
My world though has changed very recently <sniff…> and though it took a few sun & moon cycles, nearly every separate biome is now locked into winter’s cold grip with snow falling and seas freezing over! Many of my safe rail passages relied on waterfalls, but now they are frozen – and I have critters on my tracks and mobs in my living room.
How did this happen? Yesterday’s XBox update.
I am depressed. So close to finishing that 4th rail from East to West, and planning on a 5th… now I fear I’ll have to abandon hundreds of man-hours in search of another stable biome. But how do I know another update won’t affect it too?
Has this happened to anyone else as well; has your world been rocked with climate change after the update?
<sigh>
What's a miner to do… Kin
PS - For the record, I like the new updates... except for the above ^^.
I don't play the X-Box version, but from what I know from playing early minecraft, is that when they are adding major things/playing with world generation, you will happen to have a few biomes change. If you venture outside of your normal area you should see that there are still normal biomes and that your world is not experiencing eternal winter (seasons in MC would be cool though). My suggestion for the waterfalls and... critters in you tracks?... is to just get over it. There will always be some adjusting to be done and minecraft is like legos, if something is broken... fix it. Happy holidays!
The reason for this happening is because the code that generates the world according to a given seed has been changed to include the mushroom biome. And this in turn means that already existing worlds will have their biomes changed. That same thing happened after the previous update when we got the swamp biome.
actually the last update(1.8.2) was more of a major shift compared to this one. My old world(1.7.3) that I still play on has shift from it normal weather to having a bit of snow in certain areas to now that snow is not and probably somewhere else on the map... Never had a map that was completely covered in snow, since I happen to look for a map with as many biomes I can fit into one map...lol
Also on that same map my old on I apparently have a mooshroom biome cause' a mooshroom cow spawned in a certain area of my kingdom...lol Don't know about you but I don't mind the biome shifts as I learn to adjust what I am making or just flat out ignore the weather, as I don't build stuff there because of the weather. If it happen to snow then so what, if i build around it or just in it I will just build through it...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Couple of items:
First, thank you Moderators for moving the post to a better location; I thought this might be a better slot after I posted and fretted a bit, so humble thank you!
The issue is the Entire World has gone through an epoch marked by a rapid tectonic shift northward or perhaps caused by radical precession of the axis… regardless, my formerly equatorial parts are now above the Arctic Circle, and the formerly Nord biomes are um… still Nordic. In short, my realm has turned into the Snowball Earth. The diversity that once existed has been subjugated by act of God or Gaia.
To “live with it” is not an easy choice. Imagine for example that all the Sugar Cane planted now explodes on contact. I think I spent a good part of the day building underground farms or installing translucent roofing overhead, or stuffing torches every 4 blocks to prevent freezing. This is NOT fun.
Professionally speaking as an application developer and architect of many products and services, I am very keen on how code & design should work, particularly for expanding platforms. I can understand that a present world cannot be modified (much as I would like) to include new features; I think that’s OK and could buy off on that. To get new features – one should create a new world. The risk of tinkering with the old can have profound results – as in my case.
Let me clear:
I don’t have melons, I don’t have vines, my snow golems don’t work, I don’t have a pre-fab village… many objects of the previous update did not make it into my world, however I did find two pumpkins which I’ve replicated in hundreds through farming. So why would an update plunge my entire diverse realm northward?
BTW – I like the Holiday analogy; I’d really prefer to be optimistic to a fault and believe that – despite being a pain in the side. If it were true, we’d better watch out for Valentine’s, St. Patty’s, Easter, and The Summer Solstice (Mahahaha)!
There are three paths going forward:
“Live with it”. Um, ok – I could give up and throw in the towel and spend the next week or two restoring what once was that should have never broken. I started to replace my chests after that kooky update that turned them all black and 90* but gave up after replacing the 3rd. Thankfully a later update fixed it. Imagine the futility of making fixes and workarounds that are derived by fat-fingered coding. I don’t know that I want to continue on this path.
I could start over. That's not much better than the above and subject to the same vicarious artifacts of emerging development.
Get proactive, turn my XBox into a dev-platform, and reclaim my realm. PC guys have us hand over fist; why can’t we do the same?
I need to feel good about solution. It's an enjoyable game and I'd like to contribute. I'll leave destruction to creepers.
Same problem for me. Although it won't kill my desire to play it has killed my faith in the developers. I began building my city in an extreme hills biome. I spent tons of hours destroying mountains to flatten my area to build my palace and future city. The result of my effort has been this:
After the update it now looks like this:
It pains me to see this. I wouldn't mind it if this game had seasons and this would go away and come again eventually, but that is not the case. I will continue to build this city hoping that the next update will change the weather again but that is far away and will probably cause me to stop playing until release. I have gotten 6 people so far to purchase this game on pc and console because of my recommendations and now it seems I may have been wrong. I truly hope you fix this.
It looks like something out of skyrim which is really cool. Didnt the last update do this too and then they fixed it with the update bug fixer? If I am not mistaken that is what happend.
Azraelsgrace: Spectacular work! Architecture was not my calling. I could design a barn… maybe a brewery, not too shabby at gardens and walls… But that is just awesome to behold.
I downloaded the XNA Dev Kit but requires the annual purchase of a subscription for $100 USD in order for my PC dev box to mate with the XBox 360. We’re so close to the end of the year that I’ll wait until 2013.
Not exactly sure how I can write a patch or mod along the same lines as the pc guys… one step at a time; I don’t know if it could be accomplished as XBox is really clamped down tight compared to PC (not a complaint, just an observation).
