Well the new update for xbox came out this week and it says nether fortresses. Well I made a nether portal and I searched every were for one but I couldn't find one, and it's a new map too. Does anyone know were they are or why I cant find one???
I think it's stupid that every Nether doesn't have a guaranteed Nether Fortress. After investing about 4 hours in my current world I find out that a big chunk of new content is completely inaccessible to me. Without a Nether Fortress I can't make a Brewing Stand or see Blazes, and I can't make the new nether bricks/fences.
on a slightly different note am i the only one who's end portal isn't working?
no one's end portal are working... the end will not be until the next update, hence it not working. I think they just added in preparation for the next update. This just supposedly makes it easier to find the strongholds in each world after 1.8.2 and beyond for the moment. As ender eyes are suppose to link to a portal room, but people have had problems with that too. So the stronghold in general maybe... More or less the stronghold is a tad easier to find, although not as difficult as a fortress apparently.
I just hope that fortresses aren't as rare as seeing a natural charged creeper...>< Now that means I have to go through 100s if not 1000s of maps just to find 1 fortress. Aslo it would be 10,000s if you add in the fact having the overworld the way you want it...><
Patience may prevail though, as I am sure 4J is working on a patch to help maybe. We will see what they come up with when that comes out...lol

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Nether fortresses are ridiculously rare to find in this update.
Yesterday, my gilfriend and I each went into Creative mode to look for a seed with a nether fortress. Out of 20 attempts each, she found one. That's a 1 in 20 chance you'll get one. The kicker is that the one she found didn't have a nether wart room so it was basically useless.
I found 2 out of 20 but one of them also did not have nether wart. So out of 40 total attempts, we only found ONE useable seed.
A 1 in 40 chance for a nether fortress is absolutely absurd. With the limited size of the 360 maps, a nether fortress (complete with Blaze and Nether Wart) should be guaranteed every single time. It's not as though we can continually search until we come across one. Eventually you run out of Nether to explore.
Not having a nether fortress effectively removes a whole portion of the update, (unless you go into Creative mode and give yourselves all the materials that you need but then you can forget leaderboard stats for that world).
I love this update but I'm really disappointed with this situation. Hopefully it will get patched.
You have to remember MC is completely random everytime it generates a new world. Whether or not there's a Nether Fortress is just the luck of the draw. If you explored the Nether on old worlds, they won't generate in chunks you've already explored, so it'd be easier to find one on a new world made after the 1.0 update.

See my post above. There's nothing easy about it.
On PC, if you don't have one in your immediate area, you can explore further until you finally reach one. On 360, if you don't have one, your seed is useless for potion brewing. And for people who were really looking forward to that aspect of the update, it's basically a kick in the scrotum.

Very true. Even more so since the size of the Nether is only about 1/3 the size of the overworld map. And that in turn means that if you don't find a Nether fortress rather quickly after entering the Nether, chances are pretty good that there isn't one at all.

I couldn't care less about the leaderboards, but having to switch to creative to add something that should be there in the first place totally defeats the purpose of playing on survival. At the very least it takes much of the joy out of it.
Well I had to go through at least 15 maps yesterday and then I found one with everything. 4 or 5 villages, all biomes including a decent mushroom area, a very large netherfortress and a really nice stronghold with I think two full libraries (have to confirm again since I was tired, but know there was one near lava). There is also a mineshaft above the stronghold. I love being able to explore things in creative mode!
As for the Netherfortresses I would not be shocked to find that some of them are hidden in netherrack or however thats spelled. I did find one on my map but part of it was in netherrack, actually a good chunk of it was. My suggestion is if you are working on a map write down the seed number and recreate it in creative mode and then just tnt the heck out of the nether or at least travel all over the place.

That would still take a while per attempt... as most the ones i find and have saved have a lot of rack....and a lot of open space as well. I have blasted and blasted a good chunk of one of them and that was 2 hours doing this... that was only a 1/4 to maybe 1/6 of the nether map... So blasting away at it would take a lot longer than you would think... especially in creative... Hopefully on the few I saved in creative I will find one, but no luck on the immediate surface, which was what I was hoping for. The fortress is hard to miss, but if it is hidden in the rack, then it is easily missed...><

Nether fortresses, are they classed as a structure? If so, are they classed as a structure, just like the overworld structures are. . . strongholds etc?
I'm asking, cause I was thinking about the option before you start a game, where you have the tick box for structures. When you tick it on, default, it generates overworld structures. If a Nether fortress is not classed as a structure, then it would not generate them . . . only randomly? No?
Either they fix this in the bug fix or they fix it in TU 8. We better get bigger worlds in TU 8 too because of the Higher World height and jungle biomes. I don't won't no 40 block wide jungle biome.

What's the seed? Before when I used random seeds for worlds I was never able to find melons, cacti, strongholds, villages, or mineshafts and I finally found a seed that I love besides it not having a nether fortress that I can find.
I had this exact same problem, and didn’t realize it until I had about 8 hours into that map. I didn’t want to wait for the bug fix update so I went and I found (through trial and error) a perfect seed with all biomes.
