I updated minecraft to 1.9 and the water turned into ice, is this normal?

There where some changes made to biomes in the recent update. This has caused older maps to once again have weather shifts.

Yep, on my friends world, my area got a biome shift. It was dark green before the update, now everything is a lush, bright green. I actually love it in this instance, since it made my area seem more natural and themed as such.

Also on an older world of mine, the biome shift rendered an Ice tray I replicated from the PC version, completely useless. That biome is now a desert biome.
