They will wander and will attack enemy mobs. They are only used as distraction though since they throw snowballs

Like SnyderGuy said, and there's a limit of 8 at the same time.
But it's kinda cool you know, because you make those snow golems and they'll shoot any nearby enemies. In the meantime you can do whatever you want with the mobs because they'll be entertained with the golems xD
Fence them in. They are pretty OP in the ender dragon fight (when we get that) build a bunch of them and they will keep the Enderman away, making that battle pretty damn easy.
I'll have to fence them in I think then. Was looking forward to them patrolling my house. Are they easy for the mobs to kill? If so, they'll be a sitting target for skeletons.

Skeletons yes, and other mobs sometimes, but normally no.

Problem is, when I made them, they just kind of wandered off. I made two, and within 10 minutes they were at least 100 blocks away from me.
Are they supposed to stay near you, like wolves, or are they supposed to be like other NPC, and have their own 'free will'?
I was hoping to making a kind of sentry gun for my home. I may have to just fence them in I guess.
