Hi, I'm new to this forum and kinda new to the game. I've been playing it for several months now and have been reading through this forum, but I have some questions so I decided to join.
Now I have been making a city on my map in creative mode. One of my projects is to make it monster proof. I have been working on a 7 block high obsidian wall that is on the edge of the water and will surround my city. I plan on putting tons of street lamps every where to help illumination at night. Now the other day I kept it on creative but turned the monsters on so I could look for spawners and I noticed something something strange. Some how they are getting on top of my buildings. I have built a library that is approximately 15 blocks tall and I seen a creeper on the peak of the roof. How is this happening? I eventually want to be able to turn the monsters on and have my city safe, but it won't happen if they are parachuting in like that. What can I do to prevent it.
Now my other question is would anybody like to lend me a hand with the city I'm trying to build. I just need a hand making a bunch of modest homes (2 story normal looking houses, no gold/diamond/bs). My end goal is to have a normal looking city for the most part, so nothing way out. I of course would like to be able to check out your map and the things you have created before I would allow you to build on my map, but that is just because I have already had bad experiences letting just anybody on my map.
They are spawning on top of your buildings. I'm guessing you have no lighting up there? Put some torches or glowstone up there to prevent them from spawning. Or some half-slabs should also do the trick if you don't want light shining from the building tops.
Yes your roof is probably unlit and has blocks that monsters can spawn on. I would also suggest putting a ledge around the top of your wall to prevent spiders from climbing up and over.

I'm more worried about creapers messing up my town, I can handle spiders, zombies, and skeletons
Another question I would like to add. Lets say I find all the monster spawners on my map. Would I be able to contain them and direct where they pop up at? So for example encasing the spawner room in bedrock and making a bedrock hallway that opens up into a specific area.
Even if you were to encase/destroy all of the monster spawners in a world, monsters would still spawn. If you open up a superflat world on difficulty, monsters will spawn at night, even though there are no spawners on a superflat world. Spawners are more or less kind of a treasure room for rare items(ish) that are guarded by monsters that spawn frequently. Theres nothing you can really do to avoid creepers creeping up your town, the best thing to do is, as mentioned above, light up the rooftops or cover them in half slabs to ensure the monsters don't spawn above and jump down, then make sure the streets are very bright, with no dark areas for a monster to spawn.
In lets say, a grid pattern, how far apart should glowstone be placed apart to keep monsters away and how high above the ground. looking for maximum distances
Also another side question. If I trap cows or pigs in a certian area, leave the game and come back will they still be there? I would like to create a ranch is why I'm aking.
you would have to experiment for yourself. Glowstone, like other light sorces, has a range, and depending on your needs the placement of lamps or a lightgrid will differ. i usually have my glowstone suspended three or four blocks above the ground just so i can walk under it and its not in the way.
If you trap any form of animal in a pen or house, it will be there the next time you load the game. Some of my friends have said that if you leave animals in pens in a section of the map that is not loaded for an extended period of time, the animals will disappear. I have not had this happen personally however. one piece of advice about a ranch however. I have found that if you make a fence pen, then the animals inside will always be trying to jump out of the cage unless its two or more fence stacks high. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but i always need to make my cages and gates two high so the animals don't constantly jump along the sides of the fence.

Cool thank you, and again I appreciate the help.
Another question so I don't have to start another thread. Is there any features that are exclusive to the XBox version of the game. I seen the thread where they are trying to come up with lists for exclusive items, but are there any that are pre-existing?
superflat nether... far as i know... Although i am sure people on the pc have probably got mods out there for such a thing. It is part of the Vanilla game on xbox though.
Can't really think of anything else at the moment.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

Does it work if two slaps are stacked to make a full block

And thank you guys for all of your help.
