Guess I can retire early then! Personally i'm not keen on the gun idea. After all, this is Minecraft, not gun craft. If I want to shoot stuff, I play Battlefield. If I want to play more creatively I play Minecraft. Do we even need more weapons? It isn't as though the mobs are particularly hard to beat with existing tools.
I think guns could work in MineCraft, although they should be extremely primitive and expensive. Perhaps the cost a lot of rare material to make, and even then they cost ammo to fire. I don't want a modern miilitary-like arsenal, but maybe some basic pump-action shotguns and muskets. Also, maybe they should add headshots, which would make arrow hunting all the more satisfying(think Pixel Gun 3d? a sniper rifle would be cool too)
I'm not in favor of guns but think they could add some new weapons. I would like a staff that shoots a fire charge or a staff that shoots a lighting bolt of some kind. Would also love to see them add magic or spells of some kind. Like the gauntlets from Fable. I think this game is fine the way it is. Only thing its missing IMO is magic. For a Mage character.
I wouldn't mind seeing skins for different looking swords but not different stats. That way you could have a battle axe, skimitar, broadsword, katana, etc. Maybe a crossbow skin for the bow. Different looks but still one item.

i would at least want an old weapon like a musket because it would have to reload after one shot and it wouldn't be over powered and i just think it would be a good compromise between guns being too powerful against mobs and having advanced guns

Guns absolutely do not belong in vanilla Minecraft. I could see them being an add-on, once we start getting those next year.
I like Adam's idea though. Putting different skins on the existing weapons wouldn't have any impact on game mechanics or balance, but would add some extra flavor.
Can we please just let this thread die? We can look nearly two years into the future of the game by looking at pc features, and ANY new weapons are not in it. 4J will not give us anything in the way of weapons that the pc edition doesn't have. If you want to play minecraft with different weapons then you should consider moving to pc and look at mods.

It ain't going to happen unless the topic is locked. I honestly have no idea how people find these topics and have the inability to see when it was posted and just how long ago the last comment was posted.
At least this one wasn't giving advice to a question from 2012 that is way, way, way outdated.
