So after long sessions of mining I seem to have more redstone that I know what to do with so I started rigging up everything with the stuff. So I decided to make a pad based notifier for my mob grinder with note blocks playing a chord. Well If Im not super close the thing it's pretty inaudible. It's supposed to be like what? 40+ blocks before you are "supposed" to not be able to hear it. I turned my in-game music pretty much all the way down and I can't hear it even if im like 15 blocks away. I know it works, everything is rigged up fine, its just not loud at all. Is this normal? is there an amplifier method like double or triple up the note blocks? or is it just the way it works on the xbox?

I believe the range is 48 blocks, but like you i have found that they are pretty hard to hear if more then 18 or so blocks away. You could easily use repeaters to extend the range of your circuit and trigger a lot more note blocks. In one of my PC worlds I have note blocks throughout the entire wall system of my city which alerts me to different sounds or jingles to things that may need my attention.

Yeah after some tests 16 blocks is the threshold.. literally inaudible at exactly anything over 16 :-/ damn you wiki you lied!!!!

Yes! So bloody happy other people are starting to notice this!
The range of blocks on the PC is 47, the xbox version is only 15 or 16. It's not the volume, it's the range in which sound can travel.
I recreated FV Disco's 8 Track Sequencer, only to discover, too late, that the range is too short for it to work properly!
The more people who bring this to 4J Studio's attention, the more likely they'll consider increasing note block range (or the range of sounds in general).

Well that is kinda disappointing.... Makes at least for me the note blocks totally useless. Wonder why they decided on that range instead of the pc range. The same I believe goes for the Jukebox too. However at least the Jukebox can be useful in a single room...

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I guess the reason is because of the size of the MCXBLA maps or worlds, them being smaller then MCPC.
This shouldn't effect the distance, it still after all calculated the 'distance' that players could hear it. The audio sphere just needs majorly vamped up.

It really should be turned up a notch. Is it safe to assume that all things within MC for Xbox are only audible within a 16 block radius? I guess maybe except for storms...

That would be my guess... Storms are probably one of the loudest in the game I have heard. hearing it at bedrock is kinda well startling at times when one starts. Mob sounds have a bigger radius than 16 far as I know, but I wouldn't put it past them since the rest of the sound items are ranged at that distance.
I wouldn't mind the note blocks being boosted at least to the pc distance or quite a distance bigger than it is now. I can deal with the rest of the things being that distance, since jukeboxes I would only put in a single room in the first place and wouldn't put them in such a large area.
I think though they should down the lightning sound so if you are that far down in the earth, you would not be able to hear it much, but you could argue that it just echoes of the cave walls. However being almost at the same volume as it is above ground is a bit much. maybe a sound degrade the farther from the surface you go would help tone down the thundering sound.
Well we can only hope some of these things get fine tuned in later update, or at least hope they do...:D

I really doubt the sound will be changed in the next update, but I'm really hoping it is. If not, hopefully we can convince 4J Studio's to add it in the next one.
