I have been playing survival on my Island seed and am very annoyed that all the animals seem to be five miles out at sea.
I find it strange that the animals can swim forever without getting tired and eventually drown.
I think it would be beneficial if animals would simply lose the ability to swim. This way they drown and can then respawn on the land.
This would save us from having to brave the deep blue sea to get wool and it would make worlds more aesthetically pleasing as you no longer see random cows out in the middle of the ocean.
I disagree. Animals barely respawn now, and after the next patch they won't respawn, so if animals got tired and drowned on a mostly ocean map, you'd have no animals. Also your character can swim indefinitely, unless you are on hard mode.
Just bring them back with wheat/seeds/carrots/ect.
Does not work mate. Xbox edition. Wrong forums?
And OP, I agree, Water should repel animals perhaps? Atleast not allow for them to go 5 blocks out. I seem to notice the main concetration of all animals in a world seem to migrate out to sea, which is a pain to go out there and recieve them.

You seem to be lost sir. This is the Xbox forum, not the pc. There is no luring animals ability in the game yet... So the OP problem still remains. And I know how bad this gets, because in the mobile version my seas look like this
I would definitely not limit how far animals can go out. In PC I've had to lure animals from one island to another, and this would be impossible once 360 gets the update. Just ignore them for now, and with the 1.0 update lure them all back to land and fence em in

Well, it would be better if animals avoided going into the water UNLESS lured by wheat or were pushed. And then they'd seek to get out once they weren't compelled.
Instead, we have animals unrealistically heading for the ocean like lemmings.

They will still respawn, but at a lower rate like or similar to what it was before the 1.8.2 patch. When 1.8.2 first came out that is.
I do agree though that having the animals drown would be useless and make them even more rare. Would be nice if they just change the behavior of them a little to not swim out so far, or not continually be in water once they are in.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

Before 1.8.2 animals respawned all the time, the 1.0.1 update will make them spawn only once and never despawn(if it stays the same as PC)

you missed what I said...
I said the 1.8.2 patch... there was a patch after the update. the update itself actually had a way lower spawn rate than it does now with the patch to 1.8.2. When 1.8.2 was first released that is how it was. When they did the patch to it, they upped it a little, but still not as much as it was in 1.7.3.

I have this one world with my friends. Its basically just a ring of islands that are swamp land and 3 other much smaller islands. I live on the biggest of the 3 small islands. At one point I look out towards the swampland and I see a pig in the distance, I lol'd it off and went back to work.
Roughly an hour later I come up from a cave dive and there's this same pig, just faffing about. So I capture her and call her Mrs. Pigglesworth.
She is my only companion on that island... Things get lonely sometimes...
Needless to say I'm glad Mrs. Pigglesworth swam out to my little island.
Of course nothings been the same since that railroad opened up...
It's so annoying knowing that I can go for a swim at any given time and there will be a very high chance that way out in the ocean will be animals bobbing up and down... they should make it to where they can only go a few feet out from land... or something!
I think they shouldn't swim at all. It would make much more sense, at least for cows. I've lived on/been around farms for most of my life. At one of my friend's places, they had a pond out in the middle of their pasture. We went fishing out there literally hundreds of times, and often the cattle would come along to get a drink. Not once did we ever see a cow that decided to go for a swim.

I think that's a given cows don't swim lol.
Nothing biologically adds up for a pig or a cow to allow for them to be aquatic in real life. Let the squids and silverfish be the swimmers and being the majority of the sea, not farm animals.

So they dont have time to go out to the ocean >

I like this idea. Sharks would be the wolves of the sea, except they'd hunt everything in the water!

They already dont despawn, but they spawn when killed.
