I was making some wool from string when I saw a recipe to make "white wool" and to make it you need bonemeal and white wool. Now maybe i'm misunderstanding it, but why would the recipe need white wool to make white wool? I emptied my inventory of everything except one white wool and some bonemeal to try it, sure enough I was wasting bonemeal when I craft it, and it does not give you white wool in return, it does not use up the white wool to make it, so it is a useless recipe that gives you nothing other than wasting bonemeal, is this a bug and if so they should delete the recipe because currently it is very uhhmm, meaningless.
It does use the wool up, but then it gives you it back.
Who knows why this recipe is like that, i've noticed it but I just ignored it.

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
Essentially this. The reason the wool in the recipe is white is because it's sort of the "default" color.
Exactly. Also, the reason why it looks so funny (you must use a "white wool" plus bone meal) is because the white wool picture is used to denote any wool.
I can dye a black wool into pink, by using a pink dye. In the work bench, it says to use a "pink dye and white wool". I can also craft beds out of any color of wool.
So basically it's to get white wool from some other color.
You guys should try it because I just tried again with colored wools in inventory and they don't change into a white one, it just uses bonemeal. I have red wool and light gray wool when I tried and so far i'm leaning towards it just being a mess up they over looked.
The white wool recipe is broken, because of the system mcxbla uses. In PC I can put bonemeal with any color wool and it'll die it white. This is supposed to happen on the 360. If they change the white wool requirement to any color wool it will work properly. This has been a problem since the games release, and I can't believe it hasn't been fixed
sometimes white wool means anycolor wool u want to use. its not like they are gonna have a wool that changes color over time. the white wool is suppose to be anywool you can get

I was under the impression it was to clue you in that bone meal can be used to turn colored sheep into white sheep, just like using any of the dyes on a sheep will turn it that color.

Now that you mention it, I guess so, but I would have never figured that out without being told it like just now hehe.
That's what I thought it did at first too. Upon discovering that was a fallacy, and after hearing about the dying sheep for extra wool blocks/ dye item, I just kind of assumed that. White sheep are plenty common, but I suppose it would be handy if I forgot what turned sheep white and I needed a lot of white wool.

If it's there just to provide that clue... it's a lousy clue. I'm not a person who builds much with wool, so I've personally never tried the recipe; but if it won't turn any color of wool white right now, it should be fixed to do that.

This subject comes up every once in awhile. I assure everyone that it is broken.

I'd suggest you actually read the thread.
