A few friends and I made an online survival world, well I made the world and they joined. So, they can't play it unless I'm on. Or is there a way around this? They want to play when I'm not on. I've tried searching around and can't find anything that helps me out whether its yes or no.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Oh, and hi guys, hope to you see around seeing as how I just joined!
Without modding no way around it. With that being said, I wouldn't Mod your save files either, it breaks the Xbox ToS and you could find your gamertag no longer able to go online.
You must be online so your friends can join your world.
That sucks. You would think with it being multiplayer and what not you could be able to play in the world when the creator isn't on. I would think that would be one of the first updates they would add in too.
Many other players feel the same, short of Microsoft allowing 4J to work out a server system (and 4J coming up w/ the initial $$$ to buy/maintain the servers) i don't see how it would be possible.

They could always have rent-a-servers like some other games(e.g., BF3). They would have to pay the initial money but they would easily make their money back.
I think it might be nice to have that, but I don't think it is necessary. I know I have had an idea in mind for certain maps or things I want to do to the world and things I want to leave untouched in my world, but friends and people come in and mess it up. I know you can make it an offline game, but sometimes they want to join and see my world, but then it ends up getting messed up and disrupted from my project. That always did bug me.
That to me would be a big issue would be things being changed when you wouldn't want them to and you wouldn't be able to replace it. It would be unfortunate for a lot of people I think.

Just a little fun fact adding to this.
Gamesave modding can't help you here. I don't know anyone who does so simply so two people can work on the same world. It would be way too much hassle, and you would have to manually update the file, then upload it in place of the previous version. Then the other person would have to download it, do the things I'm not allowed to explain in detail, then they would finally be able to play.
It just doesn't make sense. Someone could end up having to wait on the other person, if they wanted to play on the save. Think of it as playing Hot Potato, but with a .bin file.

Being multiplayer does not imply offline others playing on host game... That is what MMOs usually are, but for that to happen servers would be needed.
Even on other games it is like this. If host is not on or leaves game, the game is over. Now if it was a server type style, that is another story entirely.
But sadly at the moment it is not like that.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

I love this analogy.
Keep in mind - Live is not the same as the general internet. It's Microsoft's own little beast, so setting up to play 24/7 accessible online is not as simple as it probably is on a PC. An XBox is not a server, although Live allows it to perform some server-like functions. The actual servers that drive Live, however, belong to Microsoft.
I believe it it possible to be done and, I believe, that 4J have said that they are looking into setting it up in the way of rental servers sometime in the future... but as with so many of the various ideas repeatedly suggested here... the future is just not going to be right now. Patience, people, patience... tis a virtue.
Any help would be much appreciated.
