I've been thinking a lot today, so I'm posting a lot...
I've been thinking about charged creepers, my favorite powerful mob.
Exactly how rare is a charged creeper? It seems a pretty rare of a phenomenon to me, knowing that is takes a lightning storm, and a creeper at just the right spot, to make a charged creeper. Does anyone know eaxaly HOW rare they are?
I've been playing Minecraft XBLA edition since its release and I've never seen one.
Lets put it this way... I've been playing MC PC version since alpha, i've only seen 3. On MC XBLA, i've seen 1. (I kinda pushed it there, grabbed a million (about 10) creepers, stood in middle of chamber I trapped them in (I was 6 blocks above) and I waited for 2 hours and it finally started to storm. As soon as I saw him, I tried to take a pic but it didn't give me the option (GOD ERR BUGZ!!!) thus I committed suicide by death of a charged creeper.

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
How often in one session playing do you actually see lightning hit you. What I mean by session is one sitting. I have only been struck by lightning only 1 time since I started. Haven't any time beyond that. And that was many many sessions.
Now if you were to build a mob thing to do just that, your chances might go up, however it would still be a long wait, as lightning storms come and go...

I've been hit with lightning about 20 times. My character must be made of socks and balloons...

Been playing for around two years now and I have never seen one. A few times on one save when I was playing in a thunder storm when lightning struck i heard an explosion straight after it. Though might of been a charged creeper or maybe just an bug. When they become charged is there an explosion type sound straight after?
I only ever played minecraft on Xbox and I've seen one.
Do lightning storms often come at night because I often see them while out on a mob slaying nights.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.

In 1 session. I doubt that. What I mean is when you boot up the game for 1 session. And between that and when you go to sleep or set it down for the day.
Are you saying 20 times over the time you have played minecraft, cause that is not what I am talking about, see above.

The math is all that hard, it's just cumbersome and would require a lot of surveying of your individual world.
you would need to know:
the number of blocks that can be hit by lightning in your world
the average number of creepers on the surface of the world at any given moment.
What you would do is calculate the likelihood that a creeper will be on a block that could be struck by lightning and use this percentage to calculate the number of creepers that shouldbe on a strikable block at any given moment. The ratio of this number to #1 above would be the likelihood of seeing a charged creeper in your world.
For example. (because the wiki doesn't indicate whether lightning will strike water or not) Presume lightning will not strike water. Find a survival island seed and sink every block except for nine. Build a fence around the 8 outside blocks so the creeper cannot escape.Use a spawn egg to spawn a creeper on the island and wait for a thunderstorm. You now have a 1 in 9 chance per lightning strike to spawn a charged creeper.

I've almost been hit. It hit right behind me. The game acted like I was hit so I flew a little but took no damage.

Well since they are at the moment made in the same way, or so I think.... I would say so, at least on the overworld. In the nether the zombie pigman are more, because they actually spawn. However when not in the nether if a pig was struck by lightning then you would have that pigman zombie thing. Correct me if I am wrong, but I have never seen either happen personally. I have only ever been hit by lightning 1 time throughout my experience in minecrarft.
Didn't really damage me much, but that is prolly because I was in peaceful at the time harvesting wood, which happens to be my least favorite thing to do in the first place. Rains too much. No matter at least I got my wall for the most part done, but still need to do some touch ups on it and add this and that to certain sections. lightning strike in general is sometimes rare to some while others see it numerous times.
What I was getting at in my statement is that it is truly random how rare each would be. Whether it is being struck by lightning to creating a zombie pigman or super creeper thing. It is more random than the whether in most worlds. sometimes the whether seems more predictable while still being random. But in my world it just rains often. Lightning storms are on occasion, and not every time it rains. So I don't hear thunder all the times it rains, only every so often at random intervals or well sporadically spread between each time it rains. spontaneous in essence. For the most part sometimes. lol

I have seen it storm alot. Almost every time it rains in my world(s)! Lightning strikes to me are rather common... weird. Yah I've seen pigman in the nether, but never up top. And ofc I have never seen a super creeper or whatever they're called either.

They're about as rare if not slightly rarer than Overworld zombie pigmen. Namely because creepers despawn and only spawn at night, but pigs spawn night and day and never despawn so there's more of a chance for lightning to hit a pig rather than a creeper.

Retired StaffThat's my perfect example of how rare they are xD
I've never seen one so far.

No spawn eggs in XBOX yet.
