Welcome fellow minecrafters, I welcome you to the official unofficial compilation of tips and tricks for Minecraft Xbox Edition! I haven't seen a thread like this yet, so, after seeing people struggle and play inefficiently (No offense) I was inspired to make a thread specifically for useful things that everyone can use and even add their own! Albeit some tips more obvious than others, as long as their useful I'll post them here. I'll be sure to update the post with your posted tips and tricks as much as I can. Please refrain from posting any glitches and/or cheats of any kind. Only things that can be performed or obtained legitimately. So, without further delay, feel free to enjoy and post ANY useful tips and tricks! I'm relying on you guys to keep this thread going, so have at it!
1.) Pigs can be killed with flint and steel, automatically dropping cooked pork. Yum. I believe this also applies to cows and chickens.
2.) A single lava bucket can smelt a full 100 blocks in a furnace.
3.)Stairs are counted as transparent blocks, allowing them to be placed above chests whilst keeping the chest open-able! They also allow redstone signals to go through them.
4.) Water can saturate soil up to four blocks away, allowing for wheat to be grown efficiently. No more huge rows of water!
5.) Obsidian is TNT-proof, allowing for blast-proof houses!
6.) Gold tools/weapons mine faster than diamond, but are less durable than stone.
7.) Pressing the right stick on your controller enables sneak. Whilst sneaking (crouching) you cannot fall off blocks. Good for making tall structures!
8.) Diamonds spawn around ten blocks above bedrock, so if you're making a mine, be sure to stay around that height!
9.) Netherackk burns forever, when set on fire by a flint and steel.
10.) Cobblestone cannot be blown up by ghasts!
11.) Melon and pumkin seeds can be found underground in abandoned mineshafts!
12.) You do not take fall damage if landing in a four-block (or deeper) pit of water. A good replacement for ladders!
13.) Wood half-slabs cannot be set on fire.
14.) Ladders and signs can be used to block or channel lava and water.
15.) Saplings can be used to smelt things in the furnace.
16.) Water and lava can be used to make an obsidian mold if you need a portal and don't have diamond yet.
17.) If you stack two half slabs then the block that those slabs make wont be flammable either.
18.) Wood half slabs are broken faster with a pickaxe.
19.) Mobs always jump while in water blocks allowing them to be easily pushed through tunnels.
20.) Signs can be placed on other signs to make a floor that water, lava, sand, and gravel can't fall through, but players and mobs can. (Useful for trap making)
21.) Placing a chest in a recess in a wall, then covering it with a painting will keep the chest hidden from other players while still allowing you to store and remove goods from it, so long as you stand a few blocks away from it.
22.) Eggs have a 1 in 8 chance of spawning a chicken when thrown allowing a patient player to farm chickens if kept in a coop even before the breeding update.
23.) Using a tool for anything other than its intended purpose deals 2x durability damage to it causing it to break faster in addition to doing the job much more slowly.
24.) Switching from a one tool to the another in the middle of breaking a block causes the durability loss to apply to the new tool rather than the old one. (Good for preserving needed tools by sacrificing less useful ones.)
25.) Hitting a mob while sprinting will cause them to fly back farther. Helpful when dealing with creepers.
26.) Sprint jumping is faster than sprinting.
27.) Make more than one Nether portal. The first should be put near home, reason being is that nether portals made after the second one will teleport you back to your original nether portal. This makes for a huge time saver.
28.) Using bonemeal in an unlit room with a grass floor will allow for a much more efficient way of collecting flowers and seeds. They will pop out of the ground as soon as they grow.
29.) Placing fences underneath your farms will allow for a trample proof farm, because the game thinks your walking on the fence and not the tilled dirt.
30.) Punch slimes instead of using a sword, they then have a higher chance of dropping slime balls.
31.) Make a darkroom in the air at least 23 blocks from the ground, if a 3x3 hole in the center has water pushing enemies out, you will get infinite gunpowder, arrows, bones, string and all that stuff.
32.) Now that you have endless bonemeal, make a piston tree farm that is growth activated and can move the wood into a large block of wood for easy harvesting.
33.) Fishing rod can be used for many things like fetching your boat from long distance, and pulling enemies or animals to you.
34.) Filling dispensers with arrows and wiring them properly can make useful arrow machine guns for protecting your base or making traps.
35.) If you fail to see your fishing rod bob under water, switch items to save the durability and try again.
36.) Attacking while you block does the same amount of damage and you take less damage when hit.
37.) Build an automatic piston farm for melons and never worry about hunger again!
38.) A fully drawn arrow hits as hard as a diamond sword.
39.) Cactus fences make great defenses for beginners.
40.) If you find a seed you like the look of, make a second copy of it in creative mode. You can then search for things easier.
41.) Build a lantern with trap doors on 4 sides of a glowstone all in the up (open) position, and top it off with a pressure plate.
That's it for now folks! I'll be sure to keep updating the OP with your tips and tricks as well as my own! Enjoy!
#1 So can lava if you drop a pig or anything that drops meat, down through a lava source and that animal dies while still on fire it will be cooked meat.
#7 is not completely fact/true. There is a glitch with crouching still, concerning half slabs and stairs in which sometimes you fall through those blocks occasionally if now rarely, well in my experience.
#8 diamonds actually do spawn up to y16, albeit less the closer to 16 it seems on some worlds. usually between 10-12(11-13 eye level) you will find the most.
#9 Don't know if they changed it in 1.8.2, but when it rains it puts them out if the rain can reach that fire. Well that is how it was in 1.7.3, so if it has changed since then I don't know. Haven't tested this in the current version.
Water and lava can be used to make an obsidian mold if you need a portal and don't have diamond yet.:D
that is only thing that comes to mind at the moment.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
they are also broken faster w/ a pick than an ax (maybe because of a coding glitch, where half-slabs are considered stone instead of the material they are made from?)
Mobs always jump while in water blocks allowing them to be easily pushed through tunnels.
Signs can be placed on other signs to make a floor that water, lava, sand, and gravel can't fall through, but players and mobs can. (Useful for trap making)
Placing a chest in a recess in a wall, then covering it with a painting will keep the chest hidden from other players while still allowing you to store and remove goods from it, so long as you stand a few blocks away from it (Just far enough that you don't hit the painting itself. If i remember right it's 4-5 blocks away from it, but i may be wrong there.

I've got a few more but it's 4am here and I'm falling asleep!

16. Make more than one Nether portal. The first should be put near home, reason being is that nether portals made after the second one will teleport you back to your original nether portal. This makes for a huge time saver.
17. Learn how to use redstone. Redstone will make any farm you have more efficient and less of a hassle to collect.
For example placing sticky pistons under the dirt blocks in a melon or pumpkin farm can pop them of the vine in a second, again making your minecraft life easier.
18. Using bonemeal in an unlit room with a grass floor will allow for a much more efficient way of collecting flowers and seeds. They will pop out of the ground as soon as they grow.

Attacking while you block does the same amount of damage and you take less damage when hit.
Make your minecart rails in the nether with a system of portals in every section, you travel quicker in the nether so when you come out you have gone a longer distance.
Build an automatic piston farm for melons and never worry about hunger again!
A fully drawn arrow hits as hard as a diamond sword.
build a lantern with trap doors on 4 sides of a glowstone all in the up (open) position, and top it off with a pressure plate. This does not seem to affect the amount of light the glowstone gives off.
I was playing around with creepers and skeletons on normal trying to get music discs, this is what I came up with.
To get skeleton to kill a creeper with one arrow you need to hit the creeper twice beforehand once with a diamond sword and then with an iron sword. Then get the creeper to chase you near a skeleton and position the creeper in between you and the skeleton. Skeleton will shoot at you and kill the creeper.
I've done this six times successfully and each time the creeper dropped a music disc, although I did get the 11 disc three times...
I'm assuming you could also do this with a fully charged arrow and an iron sword as well.

Or if you dont want to use up your diamonds and iron then 3 hits with a stone sword and 2 fist punches (or one, I forget) then get the skeleton to kill the creeper.

I don't think I'm man enough to punch a creeper, but I will test that out. I was trying to figure out the least hits to get a disc, but your way would save resources.

Some good tips there though
But remember, if you have any good tips and tricks feel free to post them!
