I was wondering if anyone has thought of the idea of adding a "Time Set" option to the host privileges?
It would be like on the pc with server commands t /timeset "x".
It would be useful for many things including, setting the time for youtube videos, switching times in creative to see how structures look during night/day, etc.
For the UI there could be a slider and the blip would be on the time represented by 1 - 20, with a number per each minute of a minecraft day (1 being sunrise?). You could move the slider to the time you want, then hit select and the time changes.
Being a "Host Privilege" the leaderboads would be disabled.
I know this is nothing new for Minecraft, but I think that it is just one thing that got dropped and needs to be ported somehow. Any one else have a thought?
I also pondered this idea. no-one else apparently has noticed. 4j should definitely implement this somehow but also make it balanced. it can only be used in creative and not in survival. just an idea to go along with OP
It is not that no one noticed, it is more like they had other things they considered more important to them... Like me, I am more focused on having breeding and more building options, like upside down stairs/slabs.
It would be good to be able to set time, but I think only made for if host options are set, and possibly in creative. That would make more sense than putting it in survival out right. I mean sure a bed is nice, but what if I wanted to change it to night as well...lol can't do that yet. so overall it would be nice idea to add something for changing between them in the very least, if not actually setting the time.

That would be nice however what I would like just as much if not more is the ability to turn off the rain. I know some people like the rain but to me it is incredibly annoying.

That describes my POV on any of the act of dreaming up of loads and loads of additions at this point in the game's development. I want 4J first and foremost to focus entirely on fitting the game up to the PC 1.2.3 version onto the XBox so that it runs silky smooth and bug free. People can go on and on making suggestion after suggestion to add this and that to the game; but the bottom line is that if it won't fit onto the XBox 360 without lagging the game into oblivion... there's no point to it at all. Unlike PCs, which can be modified to run more by adding in RAM and changing out graphics cards and such, there is no such option for the XBox 360. Most of the add-ons, I suspect, will just have to wait until the XBox 720 comes out... and then will we really want to be limited to the ideas geared to 360 thinking?
Changes possible on 360: imaginative gameplay changes
Changes possible on 720: imaginative gameplay changes, better graphics.
The point is more likely that the game came out in May, many people have moved on from the forum (or taking a break) and all this stuff has been talked about before. I don't think that people should STOP posting things like this just because it's not new to everyone, but don't be too surprised when forums don't burst with excitement. Forums are kind of a dying... forum... anyway. Disagree if you like, but compare the traffic here to the 4.5 million sales of MC360 and the tens of millions who use those copies.
I think the forums are dying because every thread discussing anything gets "locked for redundancy" now.
Also, there are inumerable posts from people continually suggesting that we should be dissatisfied with the XBox version of the game because it isn't exactly like the PC one... so after reading pages and pages of that sort of crap, almost anyone would start to feel a little disgruntled about not having this or than "stuff" in the game. That sort of 'warring" between PC users and console users (not just limited to XBox) has been going on since I bought my first Nintendo back when by son was in diapers.
Why don't we just cut to the chase and ask 4J to send us a programming manual for the XBox for $20 and everybody just writes their own game? Personally, I don't give a rip about what time of day it is in Minecraft.
The only time this could cause your game to lag is when you are changing the times (i.e. lighting changes), but if you never use it, it won't make any difference in how the game plays.
And this is not supposed to be a PC vs 360 thread (don't get my thread locked), I love both, their apples and oranges, but please, leave the stupid pointless, post count multiplying, garbage out.
Also as stated I know this is nothing new "but I feel that it is something small that got dropped along the way".

Oh and thanks for the positive supportive posts.
Most people only think about the big things. It's the small things that sometimes counts. Also if we don't tell 4J what we want we most likely won't get it. The same thing happened to the guys on pc when they didn't broadcast what they wanted and did't get it.

Can't a bed be used in creative mode to bring on the day the same way it's done in survival mode?

Fair enough. Care to explain to me how we can use this bed to change the game's time to night?
I don't get how a vanilla solution to a single problem trumps the multiple options that OP's suggestion presents.
I agree. It doesn't... but all of 10 minutes (or maybe it's 12 minutes) max. does change the game's time to night. In the scheme of things needed to be programmed, I just don't see it as much of a priority.

+1
Common sense FTW.
Another case of not wanting to work with the game, so just change it.
if you dont like rain? just live on a desert
