So, I was on my Mineraft: Xbox 360 edition today, when I jumped in a waterfall in a cave of mine. As I came to the bottom, I started getting hit by nothing. I'm NOT blaming this on something fake like Herobrine or some troller. Every time I was hit, I lost two hearts. I managed to get out before I died. I only had one heart left. I didn't see or hear any mobs nearby.
I continued on in my cave, and when I came back to that waterfall, it happened again. Has anyone had this happen? Does anybody know what happened?
Things I know:
Herobrine is fake. It's not that.
I was the only one on the server, and I was offline.
I saw no mobs. It made no noise to show a mob nearby.
Not an Enderman, they hate water.
I WASN'T underwater.
Were you perhaps inside the waterfall or a second waterfall beside it without knowing it... and drowning as a result? There seem to be a lot more waterfalls with this update and I've been finding myself getting into them a lot more than previously. Also, there have been incidents of "invisible mobs" - both passive and hostile reported on the bugs list (before the bug fix update). At last report, 4J was unable to reproduce the issue, so it may be a bug that didn't get fixed yet.

Well, I didn't hear any other flowing water along the water fall. There was a system under that waterfall, there was no other waterfall in it.
As I said, I didn't hear any mobs, and I haven't experienced that. It happened another time as I was going out. Unless 'invisible' mobs don't make sounds and are very patient like that, I son't have any other explanation. You're more experienced on Minecraft than me, I don't know...
I figured that was the case, but you know, check the easy stuff first.
I recall there was a bug in which you could go underwater and catch a breath according to your air meter but you would still start dying. (Created some complication for my underwater house at the time.) Perhaps it's a bug related to or caused to that bug fix. The first thing I would try is entering and exiting the water source to see if something "catches up" with what you see. ALso try going into third person and make sure no part of you was touching water while it happened.
All else fails, bring a door to make an air pocket and see if it still affects you. But beyond that I would just chalk it up to piranhas and avoid that cave all together.

Without the skin... Beneath the storm... Under these tears...The walls came down
My guess is that it was an Enderman. If i remember right they hit for 2 hearts and you may not have seen him because he vanished? Just a rough hypothesis tho. Not sure what else it could have been.
Sometimes for some reason while running I get stuck in a wall and start to suffocate and take damage. I have read that this happens to others as well. Maybe it has something to do along the lines of that.
All of these sound like they could be the cause. I'll try again tomorrow ad see if it happens again. Maybe that will fix it. Thanks everyone for the great answers.
Try removing the blocks around where you get hurt or the waterfall itself and I'm pretty sure its not invisible mobs they're supposed to function normally just not visible unless theirs a nook where a skeleton couldn't get out, but could spawn and shoot arrows

"The struggle of survival is a war without end, and war – war never changes." -Ron Perlman in Fallout.
I have had it happen before where I was getting hit by something, but nothing was around me. Did you break any blocks that may have caused something like gravel or sand to fall on you?

Nope, I was deep underground, with no sand or gravel. I'll try breaking blocks around it to see if it happens, again.
i have identified a few spot around my map where the same thing occurs but for me it is always in a tunnel walking clost to a wall that contains sand or gravel. i have had a few instances where i took similar damage around a waterfall but never anything as repeatable as the OP. i would say remodel that section of the tunnel a bit till you cant make it happen anymore.

Did you even read that reply? It's a bug where the bubbles don't show, which is probably what happened.
It happened again. Why?!?!
Please tell us if it does.
