before the update i had an rpg world open. i always had 8 people in the game with no lag. since update 1.8 i every world i open i can only have about 4 people before it starts to lag. i was wondering if anyone eles had this problem and if so if it would be fixed anytime soon.
I stopped playing online for this reason. I sometimes wondered if it was map related but we never did figure it out. Same thing we were all playing on my server waiting for 1.8 to hit and when it did our server fell apart and never recovered since we could never play without major lag. I would like to see the statistics as to how many people are on now versus before the update. I know they were number one for a second and I wonder if this is why it didnt last. Just my 2 cents.
i had a server running with 20 plus people and we were all waiting for the update then once it came out my servers lag increasing so much that i closed it down. before the update everyone on my server never lagged but now once 5 people join the game just lags horrifically.
I have the same problem, sorta. When my friend is in my world, his game lags after a bit. When I got into his world, my game lags after a bit. The host of the world, however, never lags. His & my connections are perfectly fine, set up properly, everything, even down to the same connection speed: 50 mb/s.
your download speed doesn't necessarily mean your internet is beast if you don't have a good ping.
Yeah, I think its a little more complicated than just assessing the users internet connection. Now I'm not sure exactly what else it is, but the lag we have cannot be attributed to crappy internet connections alone.
I play split screen a lot, not online, whatsoever, and I get lag. So it's NOT the internet connection (At least not all the time). I believe that it is more down to the FPS. I found that it lagged more when both players were mining at the same time.

I think it happens more after the 1.8.2 update, not too sure. Haven't really taken any notice to it.
I agree with both of you. We are also experiencing more lag (low framerates) using splitscreen in offline mode since the update. While it is a small thing, the numbers of blocks that will reappear after mining them has increased notably; and 4J themselves attribute this issue to "lag." At my friend's house, play in four-player splitscreen (even when playing offline) has been almost intolerable since the update; however, if one player drops out, the game's framerates improve notably. At home I have a brand new XBox now, it has frozen a total of 3 times in the short time I have been using it. Two of those occasions were on 2-player local splitscreen, offline mode. Clearly, having more players in the game at one time is more taxing on the system than having just one player in the game. There was a lot added to the game with the 1.8.2 update, so it is reasonable to believe that the processing demands on the system are higher now than they were before the update. Hopefully, 4J have made note of the issue and will be able to further optimize the programming to restore the fluidity of the game play when multiple players are in the game.

My friend actually contacted XBL support about the lag, contrary to the popular idea in here, it's got nothing to do w/ the connection of the other people (though that can be a huge factor), or even the update (for MC360 anyways). The last (windows 8 style) dashboard update decreased the amount of processing power the 360 has available for other things. He did say a button combo (that i cannot remember) that he got from them to take the dashboard back to the base version, but he said it wasn't worth it, and he soon redid the updates.
You may have seen more results if you posted this closer to when the update happened. I dont frequent the forums as much lately seeming I am no longer and active player due to this problem and that may be the case for others as well. I figure I will check back after the next title update and if its not better I will give up on it altogether since I enjoy online play the most.

yea i probably should have but i just started playing minecraft again after the last title update because i thought they fixed the lag but they didnt
I don't play online, but I've seen more lag even when in my single player survival world. Chests would disappear though still be accessible. I've also seen it playing in split screen with my kids. Someone above mentioned that maybe it was actually the dashboard update that did this rather than the Minecraft update. If I remember correctly the dashboard update came out just a little bit before the Minecraft update. Maybe it's not really a minecraft issue??? I did a google search and it seems players of other games are complaining as well, though I guess lag is a pretty common complaint. It does make sense that if the dashboard update takes more system resources then there is not as much left for the games, though I don't know if the dashboard is affecting the processor when games are being played.
Do you play with the same people or different ppl?
But yeah, more lag after the update imo.

Retired StaffExactly what I was about to say. A guests download speed doesn't matter if it's being bottlenecked by the host's upload speed.
