Not sure. HDMI's are useless without an HD TV so make sure you have that. Also, any HD cable works. (I use a direct tv HD cable, lol)

It depends on the tv. Some allow full hd through component some don't. But yes the old xbox is capable of sending an hd signal with component. Just switch to hd on the big grey video out box.
clarification: YPbPr = component. Once you've flicked the switch you need to set hd in your xbox settings too.

Some of the pre-slim xboxes came with an HDMI converter plug you might be able to find one online for fairly cheap I know I have one myself also you could just use the component cables (green, blue, red) and get HD picture just remember to check the output plug of the xbox some of them had/have a TV/HDTV switch. That's all I have for you good luck!
Those analog to digital converters hurt image quality not help it. Plus it only offers the same resolutions as component anyways. 480p DVD, 1080p games.

If it doesn't you could also buy an xbox VGA cable if your tv has that input. VGA is uncompressed and looks a bit better.
