On the XBox, the games are all technically multiplayer since all that's required to join in on them is pressing the "start" button on another controller connected to the host XBox. Therefore, the sign censorship occurs even when only 1 controller is actually connected.
I was trying to write "Rule 2: You may not break any block, except..." on a sign, which turned out to be censored. But then I went through & wrote each word separably. None of the words turned out to be censored. wtf?!

I'm pretty sure from what I've seen this the past on this topic the M$ censoring system disregards white space. So it looks at the sign as "ruleyoumaynotbreakanyblockexcept" and searches that string for matches to banned words/phrases. We also know that they censor more than English. So it may be that "aynot" or "reakan" is Hungarian slang for genitalia or something, who knows.
I have no trouble posting anything with the word "shaft" in it. I have signs all over my world that say "Danger: Abandoned Mineshaft.", and none of them have ever been censored, offline or online.

wow, I didn't know that. I guess you're right. I changed it to "Rule 2: You can not... Which seem to have worked.
The censoring is controlled by Microsoft and they do it in other on-line games as well. I do think that in a game rated E10 where a bunch you've got 10 year olds playing on-line with 30 year olds there should be something in place but the way the system determines if a word should be censored or not currently doesn't work very well.
Hopefully they get it cleaned up soon.
There already is a system in place. It's called banning yourself from a world. What doesn't make sense is that the word "suck" is taboo, yet a 6 year old could easily visit my friend's world, which is full of naked anime pixel art. We're playing a game where it's possible to create just about anything, yet Microsoft is concerned that someone may use a dirty word on a sign. It's okay to cuss at the 6 year old with your mic, as long as you don't teach him how to spell it.
Also, why was my comment on penis statues edited out of my first post? Please don't tell me there's a new rule, prohibiting the discussion of anatomy. x_x
What they should do is the same thing they do with the xbox accounts. If your age is below 12 or what ever the age restriction is, the sign words will be censored. And if they try going around that by faking their age, they should know what they are doing it at their own risk and a "good" parent wouldn't allow that. So it isn't anyone's fault but the user.
It is a little odd for minecraft to be censored anyway. I mean its your map. Only you can see it unless you have people on your friends list that play with you. I mean in Black Ops or Halo you play with just random people who you dont know so you can have 30 year olds with 10 year olds. I might be the odd one out though since I only have people I am actually friends with in real life as friends on xbox. I guess you could say the friend of friends feature could allow this to happen, but that should be rare. Whatever the issue though its XBOX not 4J or Mojang that caused this. Maybe they could change minecraft to Teen rating or something. I doubt that would drop sales since I know parents who let their little kids like 8 - 12 play M games. In fact in this day and age it might increase sales by making people wonder why minecraft is rated teen.

Thank you!
I'm gonna need to see that world for ummm science.
Yeah I've encountered this problem as well. It makes me quite mad that they have to censor so many words. They even have "hoe" censored and that's an item in their game!
