Signs are starting to anger me a bit now. Just yesterday I tried to put "Suck" on a sign, and it censored it... I know little kids play this game, but I don't even let little kids on my map. And here's what really angers me:

Can't it just censor the bad word? I have to re-write the sign and try and find another alternative to the word. I have a keyboard just for writing signs in minecraft, but it gets a little annoying when I have to continue writing my signs. Can't they let us just be responsible with our word choices. Someone please explain why they have to censor the whole sign and not let us write what we want.
The game was rated E 10+, that's why. It should have been E 12+ (Fantasy violence, may contain content inappropriate for children)

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
Guys, make it so the word is made out of symbols. Not letters.

Suck = $UCK

The only thing that annoys me about the word censorship on the signs is that I can't use the world "shaft" in a mining game that now even has game-generated mineshafts in it. Otherwise, I play with young kids, so I'm mindful to keep everything in my world suitable for young children anyway.
The censoring is controlled by Microsoft and they do it in other on-line games as well. I do think that in a game rated E10 where a bunch you've got 10 year olds playing on-line with 30 year olds there should be something in place but the way the system determines if a word should be censored or not currently doesn't work very well.
They censor signs, yet there is nothing to prevent anyone from spelling out the F-bomb in giant block letters, or creating pornographic anime pixel art (which I have seen) if they so choose. Censorship on signs seems fairly pointless.
Surely it should (the xbox) include a swear filter in games if the owner (or owners parent) sets it up in the dashboard options. Like the pin number thing.
exactly, censorship should be a client side option... it's up to the parents of younger gamers to 'protect' their children... from words. evil, evil words that clearly ruin peoples lives*
meanwhile, i bet you could write blatant things like 'hey kids, smoking crack is good for you'
or any other allegedly inappropriate phrase that doesn't include a word flagged for censorship.
I don't see why they bother to censor signs when you can draw a giant swastika made of penises in the ground with wool. I mean, really? If people can do that then why waste processing power on running the censor for signs? It's unnecessary.
If you play offline the signs say what ever you want and online interaction isn't rated so that makes no sense.
I'll have to double-check that tonight, but I think "shaft" was censored in my world while I was playing offline. At any rate, IF it does pass offline, the moment you start the world online, the sign gets censored then... and doesn't return even if you go offline again.

I knew it would go back to censore when you went online, but I thought it went normal when you were offline again.

Who hasn't wanted to put "Suck" on a sign? I know I have.

Retired StaffStill doesn't make sense. They should change the Xbox LIVE disclaimer to this:
"Online interaction is not rated by the ESRB... except in the form of in-game text, which is rated EC."
Also, there is no E 12+ in the American rating system. It goes straight to T for Teen.
I don't know- why can't you?
It's not like you don't know bad words are gonna be censored.

Especially text? What else would be censored in Minecraft? Cobblestone?
I guess you could censor voice chat, but Xbox Live doesn't do that.
Because that's exactly how everyone wants their signs to look.

Retired StaffHopefully they get it cleaned up soon.

it's just sloppy/lazy management IMO.
