Alright so I've got my newest seed up and running playing on survival with friends & got my house built. Even got my farm started but a new issue has plagued my melon seeds when I try to plant them. I've got a plus shaped garden (The walkway is stone slabs is in the shape of a plus + sitting on top of a squarish dirt garden). Every time I plant down melon seeds next to each other that are up against the stone slabs they just pop back up or disappear. Any reason why this could be happening?

NOTE: I've tried taking the stone slab walkway away & then putting the Melon seeds next to each other but they still pop back up/disappear. So I can't figure it out if it's just a glitch or what.

Could it be that there isn't enough light?

I know how to plant them apart (Not trying to sound like know-it-all). I normally plant them in straight line against a wall then give them 1 block space for the actual melon to grow off & then planting another line of melon seeds 2 blocks away so they can do the same & that works all well in good. But that isn't the issue the problem is that in the middle of dirt area I try to plant another row of them (More than enough away from the other rows of melons) but when I lay down the seeds into the ground the problem occurs. I lay the first seed down no problem; lay down the second seed both seeds either pop back up in item form or disappear. I can't figure why it would do this in the middle of the dirt/in another row of them but not the original row of melons I have planted.

EDIT: I'll try to put up some extra lights to see if that fixes it.

I feel like an absolute fool but DivadOcsalev's suggestion was right. Even though on my screen it looked way more than lit up enough I suppose it wasn't enough for the plants. Kind of wish they had some tip about that during auto-save screens just so I don't forget that. Thanks for the help though.
