My friend and I were playing his map and trying really hard to find his stronghold. We actually took the map number and created a seperate map on creative so we could just tnt the heck out of the map. After a few hours over about a week we got tired of it and just played it on survival. I finally did some searching though and found what I believed was his stronghold. There were 3 rooms that looked broken and a ravine seperated them. I thought that was it. 2 rooms were on 1 side and 1 was on the other. The one on the other was a decent sized room like a jail or something. Well I figured that was all he had and he didnt really care anyway.
Well eventually I decided to leave and dug out behind one of the walls. I went at least 10 blocks, probably closer to 20 actually, back if not more and found more stronghold. Not a little more stronghold, but a huge stronghold with a full library and 2 fountains and a lot of rooms all over. In fact we found more just yesterday after thinking it had been fully explored. I was stunned and when we really looked I realized that the small chunk of stronghold that I thought was all he had was a quite a distance from the other stronghold.
I am not saying there were 2 strongholds, but what I am saying is that if you find a small stronghold really look around. I had a great map with a golden apple in a spawner chest and lots of villages, but got rid of it since I found a stronghold that was very small. Well now I believe that had I actually really looked around I might have found a huge stronghold like I did on my friends map. I wish I could remember what the seed number was. Just saying to be careful if you are basing a map on a stronghold. I have seen a few threads talk about how small strongholds were and they might not really be.
Well a lot of people or at least some people on here like myself found a small stronghold portion, thought it was broken up due to the ravine, and then got mad and got another map. I know I read that on here. All I wanted to tell everyone is look around a lot more before you get rid of it. I could kick myself now for not exploring more. I loved that map, but wanted the larger stronghold.
anyone ever seen a village built on a ravine? it's quite interesting really. The farm was hanging over the cliff and some houses were only halfway complete.
I saw a village built over a cave system where the exterior walls of a building went down into the cave. I made a neat place to dig down and build stairs for a cave entrance.
