So anyways, I'm playing SSP on xbox 360 and I've built a platform some 35-45 blocks above my house that is about 35x35, 1 block thick and is all grass(I used the pistod method to get grass up there). It is also adequately lit(can it possibly be too lit?) Originally when I made this(about a week ago), I assumed it was the the problem with the mob spawning code that they fixed in the most recent update, as I litterally had no animals anywhere in my world. But now that this update has come out, I still can't manage to get any animals to spawn up there, no matter how far away I go from it.
So please help me here. What in the world is the problem? I'm just trying to make a simple animal spawn platform so I can put a waterfall through the center of it with a canal system up there(I'll implement that once I can get animals to atleast SPAWN up there), so they fall down the waterfall down the the level that my house is on and I'll have some sort of trap down there to kill them or harvest them or whatever.
Have you tried planting trees up there, it's a long shot but on one of my maps that had no animals on it in an area, (in a plains biome) after I planted a few trees around I had sheep start spawning in. Might not work for you but it could be worth a try.
actually we are lucky on the animal spawn. PC edition when 1.8.2 happened the spawn traps just don't work as well as they did in 1.7.3. They had to wait for breeding to be in effect I think. Deduced from the many Let's Play and similar minecraft series on youtube.
If you are not getting enough critters/animals to spawn, that is normal. Since passive mob traps past 1.8.2 have low efficiency now after 1.8.2 even with the mob increase. They do take a while to respawn, but still considerably lower than it was in 1.7.3. I would be surprised that this sort of spawn trap worked as good as hostile mob trap, which I am going to assume it doesn't since each has their own spawning code between passive and hostile respectfully.
Right now in my opinion it would be better to hunt them down till breeding comes out in a future update.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
those are all patched now because animals dont despawn so they wont keep spawning
not necessarily true. They will still spawn up to the current passive limit, however the rate at which they will respawn is not really all that high. At least not as high as it was before the 1.8.2 update.

Or throw some eggs on it.
I thought this was the problem before the update, but they just updated it and changed the mob generation code to allow for more animals.
So basically, is the fact that you just can't have animal spawners and animal spawntraps on xbox 360? Is that it?
