Okay, my son's best friend always comes over to our house to play on our PS3 and PC. He and my son play minecraft alot. This boy just got an xbox for his birthday this week but he does not have a computer or internet access at his home.
He has a gamestop gift card that he wants to use to purchase minecraft for the Xbox.
I'm competant on my PC and my PS3 but I've never used an Xbox before. I have no idea what steps I need to take in order to help him out. The theory is that I will attempt to connect his xbox to my network, download minecraft, and then he can (hopefully) play it at home with no internet access.
What do I need to do in order to get this done?
My PS3 connects to the internet with Wifi. Can I connect the xbox the same way? My TV is nowhere near my internet connection and I don't have a 100 foot RJ45 cable to connect the xbox to my network.
If he has one of the newer models of xbox with built-in wifi, then yes. Just give him your password for the wifi when he comes over and he's good to go. If not and he has an older xbox then hook it up the old fashioned way with the cables.

After you connect the xbox to your network/internet, this is what you will need to do to get started.
He will need an Xbox Live account. This is different from a profile. If you go to this website (the official xbox website) you can easily set one up. https://live.xbox.co...nformation.aspx
When making one, sit there and help him set it up with a password he will remember and a name he likes since in order to update Minecraft later, and I believe play it offline, he will still need to log into his xbox live account.
Once that is done. You will need to purchase 1600 Microsoft Points (roughly $20-$25) which he can use his gamestop gift card at the store to purchase the card there. You can follow these steps at this link on how to redeem the code on your account. http://support.xbox....m-prepaid-codes
Once that is set up, go to the Xbox Live Market Place and search Arcade Games. Usually Minecraft is close to the front page, but if not you should be able to hit Y (the yellow button) on the controller to bring up the search box in order to type in Minecraft. Purchase the game for 1600 Microsoft points and it will begin to download once you confirm.
In the future, if he wants to update, all he needs to do is connect to an internet connection again, open the game like he would do so when going to play it, it will bring up a window saying there is an update. Confirm and it will download from there.
