I'm trying to make a map for all of my friends and to play on, but haven't got a clue on what to do. I'll take any ideas anyone can give.

Have you tried making a spleef or PVP arena?

Build an obsidian maze with chambers mobs can spawn in and chests to assist to get into the middle.
